| We are trying to firm up our childcare for the rest of the summer. Do DCPS PK3 students attend a full week during the first week of school? If not, is there a uniform schedule or does it vary by school? Just thought I'd check here before pestering the school about it. Thanks! |
| Depends on the school entirely... |
| From my vast experience of 1 child, it is possible they start on Wednesday or Thursday alphabetically by last name. A-L on the first day and M-Z on the second day. And it may be only a half day. Some kids haven't been to any formal school setting yet and it can be SCARY. Just call the school, it shouldn't be a secret. |
| Every school does it differently. You need to call your school and ask them. |
| Which school? |
| Check with your school, but most do home visits for the first 3 days of the first week, then have A-K go Thursday and L-Z go Friday, so the child is only there one day. We are doing camp at the YMCA that week for that reason. |

DCPS transition week.

Thanks! |
| At our school, there is no aftercare that first week either, so definitely ask about that when you talk with your school to see what its plan is. You will need to pick your child up at 3:15/3:30. |

Wait these dates must be for last year. Do the preschool kids go to school Monday after transition week this year since its not Labor Day? I haven't heard anything from my school and they don't expect to send something out till mid-Aug but I have to give my day-care notice at least 30 days in advance. |
Yes, they start the first full week on Monday Aug 31st. |
Not us. We plan to take our only family vacation of the summer that week. Sorry in advance about the massive disturbance it will cause to all of my DC's classmates, and extra work it will cause to DC's Early Childhood teachers. |
| The link says L-Z attend school on Friday August 29, but August 29 is a Saturday. Is this an old link? It doesn't have any kind of posting date. |
That is so ridiculously frustrating. We can't wait until mid-August to know what kind of childcare and schedule we need for the last week of August. And do DCPS and individual schools really need this much time to publish/disseminate that kind of information? That's unprofessional. |
We received the new letter yesterday. Sorry I don't have it with me to post the dates; I'll try to remember when I get home. |
