Coconut items..milk, ice cream

Anonymous
Trying to eat a more plant based diet- recommended by both of my drs to keep cholesterol and diabetes at bay. I do not have these issues but several risk factors suggest this might be a good choice... So..trying coconut milk and a little ice cream ( yum, btw), but- really isn't this worse than dairy? That's a lot of saturated fat.Hard to believe that low fat occasional milk would be worse than what's in coconut stuff. I think almond milk is bitter. It ruins coffee for me..

Ps I am only a tiny bit overweight. .like 10 lbs.

Saturated fat from coconuts is different than animal based sat fats.

But it's still saturated fat.

Try unsweetened almond milk instead. Better for you.

Hate that. It's bitter. So..no coconut milk?

Coconut butter is tasty. You can buy it, or make it: take one bag of dried coconut, put in food processor. Process until smooth. Add salt or a dash of vanilla.. Depends if you want it to feel sweet or savory.

It hardens in the fridge, but you can soften a few tbsp quickly. Yummy with fruit, toast, etc.

You still get fat from coconut and avocado. Cut calories, cards, fat and increase fiber.

Google "medium chain triglyceride." That's the fat in coconut, and it's very very good for you.

Just eat everything in moderation. Most people's issues are earting too much rather than what they eat. You can get fat on plant based diets too. Coconut milk and other coconut products are a fad. Cutting back on portions are also good for the wallet.

Well, one reason coconut oil is better is that there is no antibiotics or growth hormones in it.

Ok this is the kind of research I wanted. I'm having a hard time rationalizing advice, fads, and reality. I will likely be a 85% plant based person. No meat. ..much less dairy, no processed foods.
