To me it boils down to this: the large percentage of teachers who constantly complain dwarfs the percentage of teachers who actually leave the job (I almost said "profession" but at this point I don't think public school teacher even qualifies).

This disparity indicates teachers are either not qualified/capable of doing anything else or are too lazy to make a change. Not sure which is worse, tbh.

You are the problem. I'm sure your kids are just as disrespectful as you are. They are they kids the rest of us have to use as examples of how not to act. We don't like you much either.

They make the rest of us look bad. Teachers in states with low pay have the right to complain. But in MOCO and surrounding counties we are paid ok for what we do and we get a pretty decent pension. I've been working for awhile so initially the starting pay was unfairly low and I had to cobble a few jobs together. But now I am fine.
DCUM you need to be careful with all these teacher bashing threads. Nobody is going to want this job. Pensions are going away and people are hating on teachers. I work in a specialists position because my mom who is a retired teacher told me not to take that path because of how she was treated. And this was years ago. Things have only gotten worse. I would never tell my child to go into teaching with how things are now. You are going to siphon off talent to other jobs and then you will truly be left with the bottom of the barrel. You don't need to be crazy smart to be a teacher but you do need the talent and drive.

And teachers need to be careful with their whining. Parents are doing without teachers now and hiring their own tutors and making their own pods and many may decide that’s a better use of their time and taxpayer dollars than a bloated public education system that can’t adapt with the times.

I think this cuts both ways. Yes, parents are gonna rethink public school as a result of this mess, I know I am. But all the parents whining about teachers will make them rethink being public school teachers. The teacher who took a year off to lead 2 different pods is making way more than she would have in PS. Why would she go back? Lots of parents who will decide to homeschool their kids will end up hiring the good teachers to be private teachers. What teacher wouldn’t want to teach fewer kids for more money and less headaches.

It would be better if we all stop whining, stop bashing each other and work together to find better solutions and make great schools.

It protects the bad apples, and prevents stars from excelling and moving up faster

There are great teachers and then there are the bad apples mainly on here complaining about this and that only working to the contract

Example, Hey boss yeah so moving forward I am only checking email and working from 9-5 with a 30 minute lunch. What? proposal coming big presentation client meeting tomorrow what? sorry I'm not being paid for that what you want me to come in to the office? sorry it's covid I'm not coming in.

If you tried that bs in any nonunion profession you would be fired in a heartbeat

Do you know what life was like for workers before unions? Yes, there are downsides to them, but the reason we have weekends, and "40-hour" weeks, and workers' compensation is because of labor unions.

The real change that needs to come from this is the widespread availability of vouchers. Stop taking our tax dollars to pay substandard babysitters without giving us the option of attending schools who hire competent, qualified professionals. The model where public schools can fail us without facing repercussions has to end.

If by "the rest of us" you mean other public school teachers I'm perfectly okay with that. I use public school teachers as a cautionary tale for my kids. Work hard and study hard or you will end up like this middle aged, incompetent nitwit who works part time and is confused on why her students from five years ago make more money than she does.

No, I am not a teacher. I'm a parent. "The rest of us" means the mature, adult parents in the school community who have to put up with the whiners who don't life a finger to make things better. We all know people like that -- at work, in the neighborhood, at Thanksgiving. You and your whining bring us all down, and we can't wait for you to stop. Just make it stop.

Shallow people like you are ugly. How high your salary is has nothing to do with worth. You seriously sicken me.
