UVA Student Released from North Korea; Has Been in a Coma for a Year?

Dont do the crime if you cant do the time.

Republicans are only serious about punishing crimes commited by non whites.

Crimes by white frat boys are only harmless pranks.

This kid paid dearly for his mistakes and poor judgment. I feel for his family. But to blame Obama or to credit Trump, for that matter, is absurd. Let's focus our outrage on the NK government, which is where it belongs. Moreover, hundreds of thousands of NK suffer everyday under the hideous regime and are jailed for the most minor infractions. Let's focus on these people, people for whom living in NK isn't a fun excursion - it's a daily nightmare.

Those of you blaming this kid.............The only ones saying he did anything wrong are the N Koreans.
His roommate while he was there never saw him do anything. Have the N Koreans released a video of him doing the act he is accused of? Nope. No evidence.

And, it does make one wonder why our government never reached out to this man to get his side of the story........

Look, we're never going to know what happened because the only person who could tell us is in a vegetative state. The roommate only knew him for five days and was not with him every minute. And does it really matter whether he touched the poster or not? The punishment was monstrous.

I understand that Otto's family and friends are looking for someone to blame for this, but nobody can know for sure whether the Obama administration could have done more for Otto or not.

Price said Thursday the Obama administration's efforts secured the release of at least 10 other Americans from North Korea. He says efforts to get Warmbier home never ceased.

And blacks only seem sympathetic when it's a black man doing a crime. Why is it when a black man defies police authority to drop his weapon (or not reach for it....or not move.....) and pays the ultimate price, you defend his defiance and scream racism? But when a white college kid does a prank not involving any weapons, and pays the ultImate price, you all are saying well, "he shouldn't have had so little respect for the law."

My take is that the white college kid should have respected NK law, and the grown black man should have respected police directives. Neither deserved to have their lives cut short, but one was a reckless youth and the other an adult. (And what happened to Otto is worse than what happened to Castille. The latter's nightmare was over in minutes, but imagine how that poor kid suffered for months.)

What Obama efforts exactly?

Right. All the article says is that Obama "worked through every avenue possible." Nice words, but meaningless. Obama was so inept in getting prisoners released (unless they were traitors) that he didn't even make hostage release a condition of the Iranian deal.

All we know is what the N Koreans have said and what the parents of this student have said.

The N Koreans have made claims about what Otto allegedly did. We have no evidence that what they are claiming is true. Yet, we have his roommate saying he did nothing wrong.
Do the N Koreans have video of the incident? No. Did Otto have the poster he presumably tore down in his effects? No.
I don’t believe what they have said. They wanted a bargaining chip and Otto was it.

The parents have said the Obama administration did little to help. They never met with Obama. This administration never contacted anyone who was with Otto at the time he was detained to get their side of the story.

The Trump administration took quick action. They were able to bring him home through diplomacy. As Otto’s parents have said, “The results speak for themselves.”

The diplomatic process began on June 6 when State Department Special Representative Joseph Yun met with North Korean UN Mission Ambassador Pak Kil-yon in New York City and learned of Warmbier's deteriorating health condition, according to a senior State Department official.

After that meeting in New York, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson consulted with President Donald Trump and instructed Yun to prepare to travel to North Korea with the intent of bringing Warmbier back to the United States, the official told CNN.
A US delegation made up of Yun and a medical team was sent to North Korea on Monday to secure Warmbier's release, the official said, adding that they demanded to visit Warmbier upon arrival in Pyongyang.
Yun and two doctors visited Warmbier that morning, marking the first time the US was able to confirm his status since he was sentenced in March 2016. Yun immediately demanded that Warmbier be released on humanitarian grounds and arrangements were made for him to leave North Korea.

February 2017 to present: Secretary Tillerson briefs President Trump on the situation. President Trump directs Secretary Tillerson to take all appropriate measures to secure the release of American hostages in North Korea. Tillerson begins the effort and routinely updates the President.

You are correct. The amount of people on DCUM who are willing to believe a forced testimony as well as the North Koreans speaks to the absolute gullibility of liberals.

Buzz is that Kim Jung Idiot is afraid of being assassinated now that Trump is in power. And he knows if he unleashes nukes or makes any other serious moves, he's a dead man. The Chinese are no longer playing ball the way he wants and the Iranians aren't strong enough to protect him. It's time from China to stop supplying the little goon with all his luxuries and make him live like he forces his people to live. That will finish him.

There is some shady, grainy video that would never stand up in an American court of law. Can't tell who it is, if it was staged, etc.

You are terrible people.

+100.

Could not agree more. Liberals are using this tragedy to:

1) Hate on a white male
2) Hate on a UVA student
3) Hate on a white fraternity member

You forgot hate on a white UVA student. Any other astute observations?

Put it all together and what do you have? If the guy is (a) white and (b) a UVA student, he's a white UVA student

Well, at least Trump has one success story to point to.

NK has already released three nuclear test since the 2017 inauguration. What are you talking about? I think if Bush 1, Clinton, Bush 2 or Obama had a clear assassination shot at with if the Kim's, it would have been done long ago. You can't just roll up in NK like rolling into Iraq.
