It is a tough situation. Trump is a bad person and a poor President, no doubt. But when a large number of your fellow Americans say something is wrong, I suggest you not dismiss it as BS coming from ignorant people. Instead, maybe you should think harder about why some of these people are upset and what solutions might be acceptable to both sides.

It's difficult to see it that way when the people criticizing "elite" universities are the graduates of those universities who (1) chose to attend (2) have benefitted greatly from their education there or (3) are not college-educated people who disparage college education to begin with.

DEI programming has gone off the rails in general. So FIX it by adjusting, not be entirely eliminating it and everything else ultra-conservatives dislike. But that's not what the administration is trying to do. They are not interested in fixing it. They are only interested in eliminating everything they dislike and/or stands in their way.

PP here. I have no idea what you are saying. I was responding to a prior poster who idiotically claimed that federal research dollars should be redirected from Harvard and its ilk (which should be shut down altogether) to state schools, since the latter have not been guilty of the supposed anti-Asian racism that supposedly characterizes Harvard's admissions practices. My point was that, on Trump's purported reasoning, all colleges should be defunded and shut down, not just the Ivy League. Nothing about his alleged rationale is limited to Harvard.

And no, I don't think that Trump cares in the slightest bit about Asians or racism. That is, quite obviously, pretext.

This money is not funding the university, it's funding research that benefits American and humanity that the university excels at doing and earned a grant for through a competitive application process. It's not some handout or subsidy. So many people subject to Trump's propaganda do not understand how the funding works.

The Supreme Court has decided that race cannot be a factor in admissions which Harvard follows as well as other colleges I assume. So what is the problem with Harvard? There have been no pro-Hamas protests and everyone knows it. The antisemitism has been greatly exaggerated and is being used as an excuse for the administration to take over the schools.
