Musk/Trump: We are firing lazy Fed workers. Cutting costs and eliminating fraud. We would send 20% of savings as DOGE dividend checks to every individual.

Fed Workers: You are uneducated and do not understand the important work we do. Because you don't read and are in a MAGA bubble. Dont you realize it is racists who are supporting Musk/Trump?

Who is going to be more persuasive of the two?

Yes, the truth isn't pretty. We (the non MAGAs) need to find a way to repackage the truth for the idiots who like shiny objects.

Polling out today shows most people oppose mass firings and cuts of federal employees. Only the less than 40% of the population who’s MAGA supports it.

Agree, I saw those poll results too. People didn't vote for this and people don't want this.

Trump made no secret of his plans to decimate Feds. They absolutely voted for this.

People who voted for Trump that I know did so bc of immigration and the economy. Maybe government waste and fraud was in their top 10 concerns but mass firing of employees for no logical reason was not what they voted for and doesn’t solve waste or fraud.

They voted for it by voting for him despite him saying he was going to it, regardless of where it fell in their list of concerns.

And if they voted for the economy LMAO. Great jobs, guys.

People who voted for Trump/Musk had hate in their hearts. They knew he is an evil snake, then when the snake bites them they seem shocked. Own it.

People who voted for Trump fall into 2 categories. The stupid, or the hateful. There is a middle overlap of that Venn Diagram. He and his ilk were very clear about their plans, and anyone who voted for Trump (or didn't vote at all, or voted for Stein) have lost the right to compain.

Federal workers don’t do hardly anything that impact daily life the average person, At state level we have cops, fireman and teachers

dear god, this shows how powerful misinformation and poor education in civics can combine to create ignorance around things that should be widely known. I was just thinking this morning that the current maga rhetoric around federal workers reminds me of the "welfare queen" rhetoric of the 80s/90s. Lazy, entitled, a 'drain' on society, etc.

Just a small taste of what federal workers do. So when you wake up, the fact that you can count on knowing the time is thanks to NIST. THe water that you use to make your coffee? federal standards ensure its safe. Same with the food you make...not only tracking things like listeria and inspecting food production but also tons of research to be able to grow food while reducing disease. the electronics you use do not explore, hopefully, because they have had to pass rigorous safety standards, which of course puts restraints on industry that would love to just introduce things to the market without having to do all the safety tests. The morning medicine you take? not only had to pass rigorous safety testing, but may well have been developed via government funded research, NIH or elsewhere.
Same thing with the car that you might drive to work--again, cars are safer than ever due not only to federal regulations but also a lot of research at the federal level. And of course, while local and state entities maintain most roads, that bridge you cross is mostly likely part of federal infrastructure. Or maybe you take a train or a plane--ever heard of the FAA?
Okay, you make it to work, but first you have to stop for gas. Fortunately the FTC has fought against price fixing. But let's say you discover on your way to work credit card fraud. The fact that you are not responsible for the charges is not due to the kindness of the credit card company, its due to the CFPB. Now you get to work. Your boss is a real jerk, but even so, they can't lock you in or steal wages or prevent you from taking mandated breaks. Hey, you just heard about that measles outbreak in Texas and are worried about your kid? Well, the NIH and CDC used to be able to do something about things like that. Who knows now, maybe your 9 month old will just have to risk it until they can get the vaccine--that is, if its still allowed. After work, you think about checking out that exhibit at the Smithsonian (also government funded), but on your way you hear about a terrible flood where your aunt Myrtle lives, fortunately FEMA is helping out, and you check the weather (thanks NOAA) and see that the rains are supposed to abate. While every one is worried about the dam breaking, fortunately the army corps of engineers has recently been inspecting that dam so its not going to break. Its sad, Myrtle's been lonely lately, since her son is in the marine corps, protecting American interests overseas. After his tour of duty is over, he plans to join law enforcement, maybe the FBI, with a focus on preventing human trafficking.

Look, I could go on and on but the point is that this country depends on federal government to provide oversight, regulation, and all kinds of services for the public good in ways that go far beyond all this and that have made the United States a leader in science technology health etc. Now, the institutions are being decimated for ideological reasons, and those in power are reallly only interested in grift and suppressing democratic values because it threatens their stranglehold on power.

Thank you for writing this out in such detail. I am on your side. Truly, really.

But this is a strawman argument. The argument is never about completely eliminating regulation and oversight.

What the opposing side is arguing is that there is too much regulation and too much waste.

How much regulation is too much can be something reasonable people can disagree in a civil way. That there is waste in many programs is by far the general consensus, even among Federal workers (by my possibly inaccurate anecdotes).

If we want to win this fight, we need to understand the other team - Trump and Musk.

What do they care about? What they most fear and respect?

It is public opinion. By far.

And public opinion is not in our favor.

And we cannot gain public favor by insulting the moderates, both in MAGA and in independents. We cannot say you guys don't understand, you are too uneducated to know all the important work I am doing, etc.

We need to acknowledge that previous administration pushed some policies (DEI, etc.) that have nothing to do with us Federal workers who are just implementing what was pushed on us. We need to gain the confidence of the majority of Americans.

Then and only then would Trump and Musk stop pushing against Federal employees. Whatever you might say about them, they are highly intune with pubic sentiment and they change on a dime to align with that.

If each of the Fed employees (all 2 million of us) can convert 2 people to believe in our work, that would be enough to stop this carnage. Yes courts and congress need to be pursued but this is a track we must also pursue.

Having a million Fed employee march is not going to be helpful. In fact, that would be taken as proof that what they are doing is working and they would double down on the current path.

Love you all! Good luck!

100% agree with this. And I’m a federal employee.

There is lots of waste in the federal government that should be cut, but this is not the way to do it. This is more retribution that cost savings. A lot of these job losses are outside the DMV and it all going to hurt the overall economy.

When Trump is wasting millions of taxpayer dollars traveling to the Super Bowl, nascar and Florida while firing workers it shows that he is a bully who enjoys causing misery.

I work for NAVSEA and some of our newer hires (all still on probation) were walking around kind of shell shocked, expecting to be let go tomorrow.. They have their whole careers ahead of them, and are doing important work and to have that jerked around with by a pathetic little man like Musk is especially infuriating. I guarantee he has no idea the kind of work we do, these people are just collateral damage to him.

The main reason people support trump his messaging that the US is being ripped off and being taken advantage of. He has been saying the exact same thing since the 90's. Look up his interview with Oprah.

Everything else is noise.

We cannot insult people the way you are doing and expect anyone to vote for Democrats. Your post is the sort of elite snobishness that turns off many people.

I did not vote for Trump.

People support Trump for many reasons. Elite snobnishess is at the top of the list - absolute disregard for the plight of lower income Americans from the huge increase in illegal immigration, ESG, wrapping everything in DEI, etc. I held my nose and voted for Kamala. It was a close call. We now know that Biden is not even mentally alert for the last year and everyone in his inner circle and all the major newspapers lied through their teeth. Democrats have turned off a vast segment of the population and they revolted by voting for Trump.

If we keep saying people are stupid for voting for Trump, because they are idiots, because their concerns are not valid, because they don't know what is good for them... Dont expect them to vote for Democrats.

That is why you deserve exactly what you are getting from Trump.

Insulting people seems like a winning strategy if Trump is any example.

Besides, we know it’s over. There will not be any more legit elections. We may as well insult people as long as we can before the thought police are set on us.
