There is an element to Trump’s deal making that’s very interesting. He touts himself as the most pro Israel president ever and he supports Israel in finishing the job but the key word here is finish. He wants them to finish the war and get it over with fast as he says. He wants the killing to stop. Trump hates war.

It doesn't matter anyway. The Dem coalition is dead. The centrists and never trumpers feel betrayed and since they were often voting against their individual interests for the common good there's nothing to keep them in the fold now that the existential threat was chosen.

I grew up in Muslim and Arab countries. I know what authoritarian oligarchies and big man politics is like. That is what your families fled. That is what your cousins live under and that is what Trump not only promised but did a few short years ago. I know what that does to institutions and societal trust as well as the long term impact that has on everything. I also know that you know all that.

That was the stakes and that was the punishment.
