MAGA snowflakes can't possibly imagine that people find them and their toadies repugnant. |
He was predicting a 50+ seat pick-up for the Rs, so he's probably hiding in a hole somewhere. |

I really hope some pundit trots out carville and gets him to say :
it’s NOT the economy, stupid! |
The Republican leadership battle would be fought out in the Republican caucus, not on the House floor, but I think Scalise would beat McCarthy if he challenged him. If Republicans get to 218 to 220, I don’t see them making McCarthy Speaker. All it would take is a rump group saying they won’t support McCarthy. Remember, a few Democrats threatened to oppose Pelosi last time but backed down after assurances, but also because there was no feasible alternative. |
Why would that rump group oppose McCarthy but support Scalise? They seem pretty similar to me, with Scalise being the more extreme. |
| GA race going to a run-off. |
The rump group would be hard asses who know that McCarthy is ineffective and unimpressive and Pelosi would continue to eat his lunch. Nobody has any confidence or trust in McCarthy. |
Maybe they say inflation and economy are major problems and recognize it’s a world problem now so not caused by bidens policies as republicans have been screaming and believe Dems maybe have some strategies/ideas to tackle the problems. Maybe many people were concerned by the talks by the various Jim Jordans and mccartys in the past few weeks that republicans, instead of focusing on solving said important problems, would spend next two years putting up show hearings on TV on Hunter and the Big Guy in Congress a la Benghazi on steroids. Republicans response to the economy is always the same, gigantic tax cuts for the rich that are not sustainable, cutting regulations that protect the public and then hide the mess under the smoke screen or cultural wars, abortion in the past now immigration, our children brainwashed into changing their gender, white and Christians persecuted in the US and so on. Maybe people want their representative to work on improving economy |
I see. Like a freedom caucus rump. I'm wondering if there is another rump of "red dogs" who just narrowly won in blue states. They may want to try to get concessions from McCarthy that he's not going to do nutty stuff like try to impeach Biden or try to use the debt ceiling as leverage. |
Lol the Fairfax County Republicans are really good at putting signs in medians. So many Myles signs, and so many Karina Lipsman signs in Alexandria. But there was no way either of them was going to win. |
Yep, this. Even the "unofficial" ones nailed into public places and trees ("Gerry Biden"). They were also in the intersection of FFX Blvd and 50 (same place as their pitiful stop the steal protests) last week. All 5 of them. I do think the "no signs" of Connolly is a mistake going forward. He and Wexton and others who generally don't usually have competitive races cannot take it for granted. |
Gerry and Don Beyer are pretty safe bets, they’d have to retire and the Democrats would have to run a bad candidate vs. a good Republican to have a shot at a pickup there. But Wexton and Spanberger yes, those seats can be pretty competitive. The Democrats did a good job of hammering Yesli Vega as an anti-abortion extremist but they might not get that gift with the next candidate. |
Oh, it's still the economy. It's just that the economy hasn't actually been that bad. |
Given what’s outstanding and how game day votes are breaking, Lake will win. |
Speaker is an impossible job with a small Republican majority because they have too many Members who would never vote for a compromise bill that could get 60 votes in the Senate and that Biden would sign, while other Republicans want to legislate and bargain to pass pork and patronage bills for their interest groups. These guys can’t pass a budget or regular appropriations or authorization bills. Pelosi and Biden know that McCarthy or any other Republican Speaker can’t deliver 218 votes for anything and will need Democratic votes for anything to pass. Pelosi knows how to play that hand. |
