GT/AAP Appeals

At least other teachers noticed she needed a different, more challenging environment. I didn't have to shove my skewed opinion down their throats like you apparently have to or come to a board like this a complain about how unfair the process is to make myself feel better. Pathetic

12:52 not sure why you are so obsessed on coming to a board like this and trying to force your wisdom on the pathetic parents!

I agree with 11:58. Many people don't think we need AAP because they can't imagine that 2nd graders do this type of work - in depth analysis. They tear down your statement as being unrealistic just because their children don't do these types of things. So they don't think other children do them. I believe 11:58 b/c I have a DC that does these kinds of things also. There is no way his academic needs can be met in a GE classroom.

PP A licensed psychologist who is an expert in the field recommended my DD needed a different, more challenging environment after reviewing all the materials and evaluating her. The system is not perfect but overall ok.

Please 12:52, tell us why you are here. Isn't there a significant amount of coming "to a board like this [to] complain about how unfair the process is to make [yourself] feel better" in what you are doing? If not, then why are you here?

12:52 do you know that some of the geniuses are school dropouts. May be you need to do an "indepth analysys" about that. That is the reason why wisc, an iq test, makes sense.

Looks like she hit a nerve.

So glad you were able to find and pay for a test that gave you the results you were looking for. Congratulations!

So if your child was doing this and was not recognized as needing a diffferent, challenging environment I wonder how you would have felt. I can't speak for everyone on here but I do know that my daughter is like yours (whether you believe me or not) and shows her need for more challenging environment but does not get it. She goes above and beyond in every aspect of school and other areas and is above grade level in all areas. SO tell me how would you feel if your daughter was overlooked and not recoginized????

At least two certifiable nut cases have infiltrated our space. They are clearly in need of professional help. Do not engage them. You can't reason with crazy.

Who isn't recognizing it?

Are you asking 13:12? 13:12 here and her first year teaching 2nd grade teacher does not recognize it hence the low GBRS. My daughter did extra research on the crickets when they had them in Jan. She, on her own, did extra research about the different species, printed pictures,, information, and read about them online. She brought it to class to share with everyone with so much excitement and her teacher said they didn't have time for that and told her to go sit down. I have watched all of her spunk and excitement drop out of her this year cause she is constantly told to sit down and she can't share her enthusiasm about learning with the class. Now I know everything cannot be shared but when it is relative to topics at hand there could beexceptions. She wrote a play about a topic they were studying and wanted to do it for the class with some classmates playing the part. Her teacher once again told her to go sit down and there was no time for plays but yet my daughter says all she does is worksheets and packets. Which I know is true because that is all that comes home in her take home folder.

It's not me. It's not the teacher or the psychologist who make the decision.
It's the AAP Commtte, and I believe they value that information as much as the teacherrs if not more for reaons. It's all part of the process and system.
