Job A or Job Offer B

I am a 34-year-old married mom of three (18 months; 6; 8). We are not hurting for cash, but could, of course, use more.

Job A
Been here about 7.5 years. Really hit my stride and am making serious headway that would eventually lead to something bigger and better, either here or somewhere else. I have a ton of ability to do my own thing and have a tremendous amount of flexibility that is great for my family life.

Job Offer B
More money and a huge career step. Less flexibility, tougher (though not too tough) commute. Have to prove myself and then could have the same do-my-own-thing and flexibility I have now. Possibly a huge stepping stone for even bigger things in career.

I have to get back to B by the end of the week. What would you do? My kiddos are definitely my priority and I am leaning toward sticking with A, but fear making the "wrong" choice here. TIA!

How did you get the Job B opportunity? Were you actively job hunting? If so, what were your reasons for wanting something other than Job A?

When you say Job A could eventually lead to something better, isn't that essentially Job B?

A friend recommended me and they reached out. They liked my resume and, it seems, me, so here I find myself. While my current job is not perfect, it is pretty close. I feel like a fool not jumping at this higher-paying job when it is also a huge career step, but it does not seem like the right time, especially with my three little ones at their current ages. I sorta have a great thing going. Of course, it is gov't, so that could change at any moment and I sure am not getting a salary increase if I stay in A.

I'm 34 with 3 kids (figures crossed if I get called in for an interview) and will be in the same situation.

I would choose B and will make arrangements for help at home.

A position that would demand and require more respect across my field and lead to bigger and better things down the road (that I would need to wait a few more years for in A).

Are they both government jobs? Or is job B private sector?
