Old lady legs!

Anonymous
I'm almost 50, but slim and athletic--only weigh 115 lbs. Over the past year, though, I've noticed the beginning of a certain amount of "softness" and dimpling/wrinkling around my lower thighs and knees--normal age and gravity, I guess. Are bare legs with shorts, skirts, dresses, etc. now out of the question?

Wear whatever makes you comfortable. Nobody is going to nickpick every square centimeter of your body they way you are. Do you cringe when you see 80 year old ladies wearing shorts? Just don't wear knee-high compression hose and you'll look fine.

Did you spend a lot of time in the sun in your youth? That could be a part of it. I have known some women to have success with using a prescription retinoid cream on their arms and legs, but not in the summer because of the sun exposure. It is also expensive because you need a lot for a bigger body part than the face and neck.

Is that safe? The surface area is much larger, so the amount of retinoid absorbed is much more than usual. I wouldn't do this.

It is probably loose skin. I got a consult for cellulaze thinking it was cellulite and was told it was simply loose skin due to aging and short of surgery nothing could be done.

Perhaps a younger crowd would be more sympathetic with your plight. The truth is it will only get worse, but you don't get that yet, so go on the fashion and beauty forum for this one, I am sure they have a solution that will make your legs more attractive.

Honestly, I think it's expected that women of a certain age (I'm getting close!) don't have picture perfect legs. Even if you are slim. OP, use some self-tanner and make sure that the veins are covered as well as possible. It's obvious, based on your build, that your legs aren't full of fat. They are just older. You earned them -- why hide them?

I have the same problem - it is horrible. I work out and am still thin, but this saggy leg thing just makes me want to cry. It is hard enough to realize you are getting older, but this makes me feel 80. Sorry, I am no help but wanted to let you know you are not alone!

+1 the young and the vain aren't wasting their time judging you. Wear what you want. I suspect I would be envious of these legs of yours.

I'm over 50, and I wear skirts, shorts, etc. in the summer. My legs look like crap: veins, cellulite, etc. No sagging skin yet. I weigh 155 lbs, BTW.

I used to feel very self-conscious, but I've given up on that luxury. I try to look nice, like a nicely-dressed middle-aged woman. I'm not 25, and never will look like it again. No one expects perfect legs on a 50 year old.

As an older mother (just shy of 50) with two very young children, I am grateful that I'm healthy and in pretty good shape. I don't care if I'm not a fashion model. I don't care if I have cellulite.

Ladies, get a grip. Vanity is ugly at every age.

I am 51 and dance so legs are in decent shape cellulite wise but the spider veins on my pale skin are even worse now. I wear stockings as much as possible if I am wearing a dress or skirt. And I wear more cropped jeans/ pants in the summer. It sucks. not much I can do at the pool but things could be worse that is for sure.

I have perfectly toned arms, bust and flat stomach. Butt is ok. Legs are skinny and flabby -----I wish I could wear pants to the beach. I wish I could wear dresses without hose but even my calves and ankles are flabby. 5'4" and 120 lbs!
Just not distributed right

I am only 35 and had two kids back-to-back and have plenty of weight to lose and toning up to do, but I still wear whatever I please, within reason.

Be comfortable with your body and wear what you like. Anyone who judges a 50+ woman for having legs that don't look like a twentysomething's has something wrong with them!

I've noticed this too Op. I think it must have to do with menopause getting closer. Hormonal changes. I think it's a bigger deal to see these changes in our own bodies, I doubt it's that dramatic a change to anyone but us. Continue to wear what you like. You're fine.
