Ok so far I have direct references to
LOST (opening sequences)
The prisoner
The Truman show
Twin peaks

Don't get me went I LIKE it but apart from the faces I am having trouble finding anything genuinely original about it

If you think you like it you should stop the show and read the books.

I was off two days this week and read one book each day (there are three). They're pretty good, if you like that type of literature. Easy read.

The books remind me very much of Twin Peaks (which the author cites as a very significant inspiration), Wool, The Golden Compass, etc...

Read the books. I'm pretty disappointed with the show after the first episode.

And there are a lot of great books from him if you're into that type of fiction.

Thanks! I didn't know it was based on books and great to know where I can find them. I can watch Matt Dillon in anything I have to admit. He doesn't even need to speak.

I'm so disappointed in the first episode. I admit I love the books (and am too young for Knowing Twin Peaks so that probably plays into it) and the show just isn't going to do it justice.

But yes! Read the books! I'm going to go reread the trilogy this weekend.

I won't read the books, but I will watch it because I've loved Matt Dillon since 1983 and it's good to see him again. So I'm hooked.

Spot on. I actually described it go my DH as Twin Peaks meets The Prisoner.

I thought the books were meh, started strong with book one, book two was weaker, and the third book was horrible. I am happy to see that the television adaption modifies the storyline.

Though I think the nurse should be younger.

I'm loving this show! I think it's really compelling. Now I'm torn between wanting to read the books, which I have heard are good, or just watching the story unfold on TV. Any advice?

I haven't read the books but M Knight Shyamalan completely changed the story for Airbender from the Avatar series so I'm not surprised he has changed Wayward Pines to suit his interpretation. Sadly, when he did the Airbender movie, he pissed off A LOT of people. His movies have sucked way too much of my time over the years, hoping they would return to the caliber of Sixth Sense, but no such luck. I'm not wasting any more time on him.

I really enjoyed The Village, on so many levels. I thought it was genius.

The previews made it look like Twin Peaks but the plot seems so similar to The Prisoner. There are not a lot of people who know about The Prisoner so it's an easy plot to steal. Still, Matt Dillon is so great to watch that I have no problem tuning in to watch him beat the crap out of someone.
