Another PP here--even though I like Matt Dillion, I thought the show was starting to drag until the most recent episode with [SPOILER] the Planet of the Apes type of twist.
Wow! Much more interested now! Explains so much... |
|
PP with the spoiler answer - thanks! I was seriously debating with my husband whether the entire thing was an elaborate hoax for some kind of gov't. experiment or something like that.
We can't figure out why there are such silly rules in the town if, in fact, the reason for the town's existence is to start humanity over again due to the "Abbies". Why not just tell everyone what's going on - no one's going to want to leave once they know what's waiting for them outside the wall! Why is it all so hush-hush? It makes no sense. You'd think the town would all band together against a common enemy if they would just tell them what's going on. I don't get it. But I'll still watch.
|
Well it clearly is some kind of gov't experiment because of the guy "back home" on the phone from the FBI who is the connection between the two places. |
| I was pleasantly thrown by this new twist. I guess it's not a surprise if you've read the books but I'm sure glad I didn't. I can't wait to see what pops up next week. I did just read that it's limited to 10 episodes. There will not be a season 2. |
Didn't they also say that about Fargo? And season 2 is in the works? |
I wouldn't be so sure. I read an article where they mentioned a second season being a possibility. And let's be real -- if something is popular and hollywood can make an extra buck, they will. |
****Book spoiler**** The books (3 of them) end with an open ended cliff hanger so since episode 10 will be the end of book 3, they could definitely continue from there. I think that is one of the reasons Kate didn't age as much as she did in the books, so they could have a love triangle later if they wanted to go that route. |
| Ok, I'm finally caught up. There is no effing way they are actually in the future. What crazy bullshit is that? Then the doctor guy is a time traveler or something, because he was in Seattle in the present talking to the agent who sent them there. |
exactly, its a ruse only. |
If you want to know these are the book spoilers: When Dr Jenkins was in Seattle that was present time for Ethan, when Wayward was still being built and they were still collecting people who might be useful. When Dr Jenkins is in Wayward that is in the future. People were put in stasis at different times and are thawed out at different times. This is why Kate has aged 12 years in 5 weeks and Beverly thought it was 2000 when Ethan thought it was 2014. Beverly had only been in Wayward one year, she was put into stasis in 1999. Ethan was put into stasis in 2014. |
| That doesn't make any freaking sense |
Okay spoilers below: There was a lot of moaning about the books explanation being a copout, but it is what it is. Present day Wayward Pines is 2000 years in the future. Everything not seen in Wayward Pines the town proper is the past. Dr Jenkins recruited for a couple decades and put people into stasis. The first people they thawed out all at once and told the truth - it didn't go so well. Now they have been doing it in stages and keeping the reality of the town a secret, except for the children "the first generation". Kate has been in Wayward Pines 12 years, to Ethan she has only been gone 5 weeks because she was put into stasis 5 weeks before he was (in the past) but she was brought out of stasis 12 years before he was in Wayward Pines. Beverly was brought out of stasis and into the present day Wayward Pines one year before Ethan, but she was frozen 15 years before he was in the past. |
oh this is good stuff. and what about the screaming banshee naked people other side of the wall? are they people who got mangled somehow when coming out of stasis and set off into the wild, or what? |
The "Abbies" (aberrations) are what is left of the human race after it has devolved over the past 2000 years. |
| But how can they be having conversations in the present about what is happening in the future? |
