Please don't flame me - I'm the OP of this old thread. http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/379247.page
DS2 just turned 10 months, and he started pointing last week. Really pointing, textbook pointing AND following a distal point, in a 'typical' way that his HFA older brother never did, even after all the time we spent teaching him. Unlike DS1, DS2 also responds to name fairly consistently, has great gross motor skills (slight delays in fine motor), lifts his hands to be picked up, displays social referencing and joint attention and is learning to waive "bye"... Can I relax a bit now? Is it possible for a baby to be pointing this early and still have ASD? Everything I could find indicates that ASD kids who pointed started doing so after 12 months. |
|
Can you "relax"? Because your child can point?
OP, I just don't know WTF you're talking about. Sorry. Please get the hell out of Special Needs. And get yourself some Xanax. |
| Sounds like he is on target, especially if he has joint attention, learning to wave bye, etc. No red flags from what you are describing |
Google is not your friend. Back away from the computer and play with your son.
|
|
So, wait... you have posted on this board multiple times seeking reassurance from people that your child doesn't have autism?
Please stop. Jesus. |
Mine did these things on target but was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 4 yrs old.... so you can't rule out ASD. OP should be evaluated for an anxiety disorder, however. Your fixation about what sounds like a perfectly normal baby is abnormal. |
| Friend, you need therapy. And I mean this not in a snarky, mean way. But seriously - you need to relax. You cannot control what will be. You cannot know what will be. You seriously need some professional help. |
Both my kids with HFA were on time or early with every single milestone. OP, I'd worry less about autism, and more about your obsession with autism. |
|
Hi I can understand why you are sensitive to issue but know that you can't control everything. My son hit every single milestone like pointing, talking, etc. And he later exhibited ASD symptoms and was diagnosed at age 5. Just enjoy your kid and know that whatever comes your way, you can handle.
And I do think you would benefit from some therapy to help you reduce your worries. |
| You ARE a parent of an ASD kid. |
Maybe you should look at her initial post before sending the hounds. |
| OP already has an ASD child. Do not flame her for being concerned about her second child. |
| No. You cannot relax and rule out autism bc your child points. |
We're not flaming her for being concerned. |

How can a child meet all the milestones and have ASD? That's impossible.
OP, I'd wait till he's two before I would relax. There is a regressive autism. |
