Thanks to this, most of America who did not know who Hilaria was are now curious about her. And most people are not triggered by what she has done because for 4 years we have been seeing worse behavior in public life.

Gitano means a lot of thigs in Spain. First of all is a minority ethnic group (gypsis). Which, by the way, suffers a lot of discrimination in Spain and all the world in general. Do you call Filipinos "Latinos" who were also colonized by Spain and are also catholic and have Spanish names?

Actually, yes, she did. She worked with brands and companies who she lied to, the Spanish magazines who covered her, she has videos of her showing her "dark skin" to her light skinned child which was clearly completely fake and ridiculous. She offended people who are actually immigrants. It is really disturbing that anyone would say a con artist who has lied hasn't "hurt anyone."

If you don't think her behavior doesn't "hurt anyone" that's cool but it's weird.

I traveled to Spain more than 20 times and married a Spanish girl. Nobody in Spain has dark skin. Spain is one of the whitest nation in Europe! My wife has blondish hair and like most Spaniards also green eyes. So who did she hurt? Brown Mexicans who are illegals and are not white Spanish, Europeans or even Latinos? Even in Mexico they are treated poorly since they are indians and are not considered Latinos. BTW it is Hilaria's life who who cares!

They have darker skin. They are still white as as far as racial classifications go but they are darker.

The thing is that most Americans don’t really understand this. It’s always a shock when you point out that Spanish people are white and some have blue eyes or blond hair. The idea that somebody who is Mexican can be white blows our minds. So Hilaria could have been doing some kind of thing where she is playing on that ignorance to try to make it look like she’s not completely white. Remember her George Floyd video and comments about nannies.

But I think the main thing is that she is just a hilarious liar, and what are people supposed to do when a public figure who isn’t even a reluctant public figure, who has been attempting to get a bigger following by doing anything and everything on Instagram, gets caught in this massive lie? You talk about it and laugh.

Exactly. Wasn’t there a really popular book a few years back about a woman who almost married a scammer? The book was all about why we’re so fascinated and how so many of us fall for the con. Psychologically it’s fascinating. I’m also fascinated by the response - the doubling down, the evasion, the refusal to see or admit wrongdoing. The inability to just say sorry. It’s so interesting. Especially when coming from people who have espoused a lot of values that they seem very happy to throw out of the window when their own backs are against the walls.

I don’t hate her or wish her harm. I followed her for a while and actually think she’s beautiful. Cuckoo but very pretty. She seems quite sweet and well-meaning. I also think she’s a little tone deaf and it doesn’t surprise me that she doesn’t understand how she could have upset people. I don’t begrudge anybody being proud of their body but anyone with even the slightest bit of sensitivity could see why the ‘I’m just trying to show the world what a postpartum body looks like’ shtick was going to grate.

I feel for her. I think this must be excruciating. And I also think she has to cop to a mistake made and apologize. Firstly because it’s the right thing and secondly because the Daily Mail et al aren’t going to drop it until she does.
