If you got pregnant at age 40 or older, can you share how long it took?
Did you use any interventions? |
| Yes, 41 (and at 39), second month trying with each. |
| I got pregnant at 40.5 - it took 3 cycles with an RE using clomid and timed intercourse. We tried on our own for 9 months before seeing the RE who took another 3 months so it was 1 year total of trying, and I gave birth at 41 and 2 months. I am now 43.5, and I am 15 weeks pregnant with our 2nd via our 3rd IUI - this time it took 8 months from seeing the RE to becoming pregnant as they made us do a bunch of tests, polyp removal, canceled a cycle due to a cyst, etc. |

Yes, but not with my own eggs. Two years of trying w/ all available science from when I was 41-43.
Success only w/ donor eggs. Get to an RE immediately - don't waste any time w/ your regular Ob/gyn (one of my regrets.) Good luck! |
| My sister tried at 41 and it took her until 43 to get pregnant and 44 to give birth. And lots and lots of money and fertility treatments. She really regretted not trying sooner. It was an emotional roller coaster and it changed her tremendously. |
Got pregnant at 37 with IVF. Got pregnant naturally with #2 at 38 and #3 at 40. My RE's were baffled My infertility was real - high FSH which resulted in low egg retrievals but it makes me wonder how much was stress? You definitely can but see an RE while you try!

My husband has MS and cannot deliver the payload so we had to use IVF. I got pregnant on the first cycle two days shy of my 41st birthday. Our egg retrieval numbers were crazy and we ended up with nine more embryos in storage on top of the pregnancy.
We also have a DC1 conceived at my age 37 on the first night of trying. Every woman is different. You have to look at your family history and get the best medical advice you can. Sooner is better than later. |
|
IVF pregnancy a few weeks prior to my 40th bday. Try for six months and make an appt with an RE - do not waste time. Don't do IUI unless you feel like wasting another year.
|
| I had an surprise (but welcome) pregnancy when I was 40. No interventions, already had a 1 year old. |
| got pregnant at 40 (and 3 months) and delivered at 41. 12 months of trying. had another child easily at 38. |
| Naturally at 42, after trying 3 months. |
| Does 39 count? 2 weeks the first time, but it ended in miscarriage. Got pregnant four months later and carried to term. |
| Conceived at 41 without really trying (but doing nothing to prevent, either). Following over a year of not really doing anything to prevent conception. |
| I had my first at 39 and my second at age 42. No interventions, but did have 2 miscarriages between each pregnancy. We used a clear blue fertility monitor. |
| I got pg at 39, 40 and 42 with no interventions. |
