DD is in the early stages of puberty and needs to be more diligent with hygiene and grooming.
I would really appreciate any and all suggestions for health care products that your DD may use (and like). Need to find face wash, body wash, lotion, shampoo, deodorant, etc. her skin is a bit more sensitive than mine (although not extremely sensitive) so mine wouldn't work for her. I'm going to put together a gift box to (hopefully) get her more excited about taking care of herself. She's 9y/o (no period yet) but is starting to develop breast buds and has bumps on her face (in the T-zone). DH noticed body odor after her dance class last night. She's read The Care and Keeping of You several times and uses it as a reference. We also talk about her changing body and how she should care for it. I just looking for products and ideas to get her more into it. I think I'll redecorate her bathroom also. Thanks all! |
| Cetaphil is great for sensitve skin. |
| Thank you! |
| 10-year old DD has started to use unscented Ban roll-on deodorant. That's what I use. |

Second on the Cetaphil. It works well for pre-teen skin.
Also, one thought is that if you want her to be excited about taking care of herself you may want to include her in choosing them. She may be happier to use something that she was involved in choosing. I think the gift basket is a nice idea, but she may put it to the side. |
| Tweens love that Bath & Body Works shit. |
| Instead of you putting it together, why not get her excited about it and have her come with you to the mall. Lots of places where you can get fun stuff but also good stuff (like cetaphil) |
| Cetaphil face wash, neutrogenia face wipes, Burt's bees toner, secret sweat control deodorant, dove shampoo and conditioner, any scented body wash you find at the store but make Sure it's wash and not gel, neutrogenia sensitive skin face moisturizer, perfume body spritz from bath and body works. Personally love the dove products since I have sensitive skin! |

My DD is 10
Clinique pink foaming face wash Clinique 7 day face scrub Nexus Therappe and Humectress Secret deodorant Bath and body works skin lotion Aveeno body wash in the winter, Suave (cheaper) in the summer Burts bees lip balm and blistex as needed |

Simple face wash, doesn't matter whether her skin is going through a dry or oily phase, it'll work and be gentle enough if she has sensitive skin.
Clear for shampoo/conditioner. Using hand soap for body wash is actually a great alternative, mix 50/50 antibacterial and moisturizing. Various deodorants work, the mineral roll on works wonderfully (I don't remember the brand). You need to be careful if she's just entering puberty, as most women with sensitive skin develop in then. |

I can't believe you guys have your kids using all this crap. Toner? scented body wash? moisturizer? perfume body spritz? face scrub? (I don't even know what nexus therapy and humectress is)
My tween uses the same soap, shampoo and conditioner she's always used. Tom's deodorant is in her room but she never uses it. |
| LUSH!! |

My 9 yo enjius using. degree spray on deodorant. Other than that, she uses the same shampoo/cond//soap I use.
I think it'd also be fun for her to choose her own products instead of you gifting them to her. |
Ugh - the smell of that stuff is so strong. When I used to work in Georgetown and had to walk past their store, I thought I was going to vomit. Definitely include your child -- I put some facial wipes in 9 yo's easter basket (with lip gloss and stuff) because she takes my neutrogena ones, and she hates the smell. (white tea and something or other.) They were more "cleansing" than "Makeup remover" so I thought that would be better. She uses them (because she's developed a couple of pimples here and there) but doesn't love it and is waiting to use them up so she can pick out something different. |
I was impressed by this too. Here is what we use: bar soap, shampoo, conditioner, that crystal deodorant thing, coconut oil. Especially with a child just starting puberty, I would be very wary of products with possible endocrine disruptors that are absorbed through the skin. |
