Is there really no better way to find illegal immigrants than on foot? In a day and age where practically everyone has a digital footprint, smartphone, state ID, how is this possible?

You cannot determine citizenship, green card, or illegal status just by looking at someone.

The police chief you refer to is from Brooklyn Park, MN which is a suburb of Minneapolis. This is happening all over the twin cities area and several off duty police officers have faced the same racial profiling that many, countless others have been facing from ICE.

The problem is the 3000 per day quota that Stephen Miller has imposed. It takes longer to do a systematic search for migrants they can "capture" than to drive around and stop brown and Black people.

But, to answer your question about technology, ICE has more surveillance technology it can use than any time before in human history. This is just a sample:

*Mobile Biometrics and Facial Recognition: Agents use mobile apps like Mobile Fortify to scan faces or irises in the field. These tools match images against federal databases, returning details such as visa overstay status or "Alien Numbers".

*Location Tracking and Geofencing: ICE purchases bulk location data from commercial brokers using software like Babel Street’s Locate X. This allows the agency to track cell phones as they move through specific areas without requiring a warrant.

*Social Media Monitoring: The agency employs AI-driven platforms like ShadowDragon’s SocialNet and Zignal Labs to scrape public posts across 13+ platforms, including TikTok and Facebook. These tools create detailed dossiers on migrants’ locations, relationships, and "threat levels".

*Phone Forensic and Spyware: ICE uses Cellebrite and Magnet Forensics devices to extract data from seized phones. Additionally, the agency has revived contracts for Paragon’s Graphite spyware, which can reportedly infiltrate encrypted apps like WhatsApp and Signal just by sending a message to a target number.

Cottonwood County Sheriff Jason Purrington is disputing ICE's account of the release of a man accused of criminal sexual conduct.
ICE tweeted a video accusing Cottonwood County of releasing a Guatemalan man accused of child sexual assault, despite an ICE detainer.
The sheriff says the department notified ICE they were releasing the man, but ICE told them they were too busy at the time in the Twin Cities to come get the accused criminal.

Republicans will give up their constitutional rights--and everyone else's--willingly and happily in exchange for the promises of ridding the country of "illegals." They will accept the creation of a para-military force controlled solely by one man, the widespread proliferation of surveillance technology to surveil not just foreigners but citizens as well, the use or potential use of the military and national guard against internal enemies, the 1st and 4th amendments and the rights they are supposed to enshrine, and they will turn on their non-MAGA fellow Americans who their leader describes as "the enemy from within... is more dangerous than China, Russia, and all those countries".
