+1. CTCL stalker is weird |
| And I think he has a multiple personality disorder. |
| Yet here we are on page 32 so . . . he (or she and maybe they) is winning |
| Ok the person claiming that only one person could possibly think CTCL is stupid is seriously, seriously unhinged. |
Yea that’s clearly untrue because at a minimum there’s you and me. |
I don’t care if there’s one , two or ten of you. Getting worked up over the CTCL label, and bashing the schools, students and parents interested in them is silly and juvenile. |
And repeatedly claiming that multiple people (actually, the vast majority of level-headed people who would even be vaguely aware of the dumb CTCL brand) are actually just one person with multiple personality disorder isn't just silly and juvenile, it's borderline delusinoal. |
It’s like a car crash… you can’t help but look. |
Based on the language used, I think there are 2: one who is truly ridiculous and one who is a more reasonable person who occasionally chimes in with anti-marketing comments. But I think there are only 2. At least, at this point in the thread |
This much is clear: there are more than two DCUM posters who bash CTCL schools and the label. I bash them because CTCL parents too often try to make them out to be something they’re not. They’re not “special” and they don’t offer some unique “fit.” They’re second and third tier privates for parents who you just KNOW wanted first tier. They’re not even in the bronze medal category. |
^^^ This is the ridiculous one. |
This! You don't like the initials CTCL? That's a weird thing to care about, but OK. You don't like the name "Colleges That Change Lives"? OK, sure, obviously any college can change someone's life. But that happens to be what the NYT education reporter named his book. You don't want your kid to apply to/attend/ever go anywhere near any of these colleges? Fine, no one is insisting that they should! But that people would feel compelled to bash these schools and posters so fervently is just ridiculous. If you're only interested in HYPSM or NESCAC or IDGAF schools anyway, why would you even care? |

A lot of the rural schools on the CTCL list and CTCL-adjacent schools (like the ones in the Landmark sports conference) attract a lot of really sheltered rural kids from PA, Kentucky, upstate NY, Ohio, etc. My experience is mostly with schools in “Pennsyltucky.” I say this because the “better” LACs like NESCAC schools draw a national student body, whereas several of the CTCL schools are populated by the local kids of the school even if they require the kids to live on-campus.
My kid goes to a school on the CTCL list btw. |

If a group of near-bankruptcy schools started a group after Money.com's Best Value List calling themselves the BVL and all their tittering booster parents started boasting about how they went to a BVL, you could expect the same amount of eye-rolling.
There isn't just one person or even just a couple of people who think CTCL is stupid, and the people claiming as such are desperately delusional. |
