I told my best friends last year that it happened, but not the details. She was an attorney who was representing my assailant (not the DMV, but another close knit community). She dropped him as a client.

I would never press charges. 25 years had passed before I dealt with it. So why? I would likely lose after so much time. It wouldn’t take away the pain of what happened. And I would drag my kids— two teens— along for the ride. But you better believe that if he were up for a powerful position I would be tempted to say something. Although I would not want to put myself, and my family and my painful experience out there for the harpies of DCUM to claw to bits. So, I probably wouldn’t be as brave.

Also— I’m tired of men telling women how to process sexual trauma from the 80s and 90s. When you get raped, you get an opinion. Until then, STFU and stop telling victims how they should have behaved as teens, or how they should feel, or what they should say, or what they should have done. This is such a ridiculous argument. if they were going to hope for the biggest impact with such a letter, they would have released it right away to derail the hearings, not right before the vote.
