Sound off if you think AAP is BS

What dynamic? Have you been in a middle school here? Do you know how they operate and the large scale of them?

I ask because recently I've run into moms of new middle schoolers who assumed that every child in the school has the same math teacher and is in the same math class, and that everyone knows everyone, and must know their child.

Really? You've run into multiple moms making this assumption, or maybe just one? That's some hyperbole there.

I have visions of the middle school mom version of "Oh, you went to Ohio State? My neighbor went there too. Bob Smith."

People do that kind of "of course you must know each other" about so many things. It is not unique to AAP and is probably just a mom or two saying something along the lines of "Oh, your Larla takes algebra? How does she like Ms. Jones? She should get together with my Larlo to study for the test." Without realizing that middle school is not elementary and not everyone shares the same math teacher.

PP is being silly.

I'll bite. School systems are supposed to provide a basic education

If you want extra stuff you should pay for it

Maybe this will finally balance out the FCPS budget instead of them constantly wining

Amen. It blows my mind that in this era of difficulty in balancing budgets we have:

Sports team with trainers
Orchestras, bands and choruses
Art
Foreign Language
Computer and technical classes
Debate, Odyssey of the Mind and a whole slew of academic "bowl" teams
After school programs and late buses
IB, AP and honors classes
PE

These should all be cut. In fact, I think the Amish have a point. There is zero need to educate kids above 8th grade.

Yea, let's just cut anything that doesn't pertain to my kids who are not in aap, esl, snl etc programs.. Let's make where we live a crappy school system that teaches to just one level.. Esl? Snl? Nah.. We all deserve the same education. That isn't really why this area is attractive to families and businesses.

True, let's just let our children be narrow minded, ignorant of outside of the us, just because you have no aspirations or exposure or to the rest of the world is short changing your kids, You should consider living in middle America where they also don't take kindly to them foreigners and don't take to change.

I think at this point most reasonable and intelligent people know AAP is a joke. It's good to see so many express their opinions on how bloated the AAP classroom(s) and the program is overall.

Ummmmm, no. As much as you would like that to be true just because you said so, it is not. There are many reasonable and intelligent people who disagree with you.

NP here. While I agree that the PP's suggestions for cuts were shortsighted and not real world, I don't think you understand "middle America" very well. I'm from the Midwest and most of the people I know there would be appalled by such ignorance. Meanwhile, I've met people in DCMDVA who are against foreign language and caught up in the reading, writing and tests scores view of what matters in education.

If the Trump campaign has shown us nothing else, it's that there are clueless people all over the U.S. It's silly to malign a whole area or region of the country just because you don't get around much.
