3 killed in crash on River Road

I still don't understand how the car that was turning didn't see him coming. He was going way too fast and obs at fault, but when I look out before I turn I do not go if I see cars flying towards me. Anyone have any info on how they may have missed him.

The place of the turn down a short hill, with the BMW driver coming from uphill. so either the driver of the turning car saw him uphill but grossly underestimated the BMW's speed (speeding cars reach 60 at most there), or the oncoming car was simply hidden behind the hill when the turn was initiated.

I don't know, but it is generally harder to gauge a car's speed in the dark.

Since it was his father's leased car, and you can almost certainly prove the father knew about his driving behavior, I'd nail him on negligent entrustment.

If someone commits a sex offense, they are marked for life. If someone engages in reckless driving, we cannot take away their license. Driving is too essential to existence as an adult.

Next up, how hipster cyclists and light rail lines are endangering our way of life.

There road is small hill that slightly distorts the view at the turn-off for the high school. Plus, at night it's too difficult to tell how far away the speeding car is. At the 45mph speed limit, the family would have easily made the turn. At 115mph the driver is moving 56 yards per second.

P.s. If you look street view you can see how the hill provides limited view of cars.

The hill is about .1 mile, so at this speed, it may have taken the car less than 4 seconds to reach from uphill, where the pedestrian crossing is to the intersection.

So really the poor youth is the victim here. I wouldn't be surprised if he could successfully sue the estate of the deceased. It's a tragedy for all, but lets all pray for this poor youth. He shouldn't have to put up with this scrutiny and speculation.

I hope whoever posted this has read the update and reflected on "speculation."

115 mph. Not a "little fast." And no, the other driver didn't have an "absolute duty to YIELD" when it is impossible to avoid someone driving so recklessly. He is not going to "sue the estate," and I am not going to pray for "this poor youth."

I am relieved that he is at least taking responsibility for his actions. I wish, however, that's first brush with the law had had an impact on him.

I'm willing to bet he'll receive something like 6 years, and will get out in 2.
Kinda like that kid who drove drunk and killed two of his classmates.

Thank you for the explanation. This is horrible.

"Sorry" ain't going to cut it. This kid had been a menace on the road for a while and it was only a matter of time before this happened.

3 lives gone. For what? I hope he goes to jail for a while. Because he has a serious, serious problem.

Are they going to finally put a stoplight in there or what?

Also, as the crash engineers noted, the BMW was coming straight on and given the dark with headlights, it would be very difficult for the driver of the Volt to accurately estimate the approaching car's speed. So he saw it, figured it was going 45-60 mph and turned, clearly not recognizing the 115 mph approach speed. Even with braking, impact was at 75 mph.
