Tell me, all those parents who have to go to work and can't drive their kids to school -- what are they doing with their kids at home? Are the kids staying home alone? Because that's really so much better... MCPS should be doing everything it can to get kids to school. Period. |
But, but... equity! The 50% who go will learn more than the 50% who don't so no one should get to go to school then! |
| Like i said before, i refuse to teach new material if my classes have less than like 75% in attendance. We can open and i will just pop on a podcast for the kids to listen to |
I believe the issue is, unlike the states you list, MD does not have the equipment easily distributed in the numbers it needs to along with the staff and resources that are needed to quickly and efficiently deal with this particular type of winter event. If you lived in MN then they plan for this sort of thing, have the equipment easy to access for all the schools and have the money attributed in their budgets for the resources needed, as it is expected year after year. Not the case here in the Mid-Atlantic. |
And you should be reported for this. |
Well, yes, that is their reasoning. |
And it is beyond stupid. |
Why is the options teaching new material or a podcast? Why can't you review existing material with the kids who are there, maybe do enrichment activities that might be enjoyable for them and for you? You act like you want to punish people for expecting you to go to work. |
Wait until march when i play college basketball games on the smart board during class |
"Why do parents hate teachers so much?" |
Yes it is. It is really odd that you don’t see that. This is exactly like Covid - where parents expressed the desire to keep kids at home but changed that desire as soon as school opened. Open the schools and the kids will come. |
By whom? To whom? What do you think will be accomplished? If the teacher is providing some kind of intellectual stimulation for her students, why do you care if it’s off the normal lesson plan? Some of my best lessons have been impromptu. New material that’s accessible and appealing to the students can yield lively class discussions and awaken new ideas and interests in kids that are otherwise apathetic. |
Ok. The fact that you are a sh*t teacher doesn’t mean you can blackmail the schools to stay closed. |
What you're describing is far different than "I'm just going to put on a podcast" or "I'm going to play college basketball games on my whiteboard." If your principal was doing an observation of your classroom, are those really the activities you would choose? |
It's fascinating to see how much of the patterns of all of this were set in COVID, including the same attacks on parents who have the audacity to think their kids should go to school. |
