APS VA Snow Day Projection

As it stands, it’s a primary access point for parent/student vehicles, but can’t quite accommodate 2-way traffic with the snow. There will either be an accident with a turning vehicle or a line of 100 cars waiting to drop students. I assume other schools are facing similar problems.

I have a Yorktown kid and will be going earlier than needed and dropping my kid reasonably far away to walk. He is a teenager and fine to make his way over some ice and snow. Just steer clear is best move I think.

The county really needs to reinforce the snow ordinance now that kids are back out commuting to school. I don’t care how hard it is to get up the ice and snow - you’ve had more than a week to get it done.

MAP testing is scheduled for Thursday and they won't do that on late arrival day. It's already been rescheduled 4 times, so I think we'll be back on time unless buses are really struggling.

I don't think this has any specific implication for this week, but our MS rescheduled the MAP testing to next week.

Langston Blvd is a mess. How are kids supposed to walk on that?

Interesting. The worst of it by our house is where the plow made a snowbank out of the previously shoveled sidewalk, which is specifically exempted from the ordinance (and also literally impossible to penetrate without some type of machinery at this point!).

That stretch of sidewalks near DHMS needs to be handled by the county.

It'd be great if they could plow S Carlin Springs to be more than one lane. There are multiple schools on that street and there was a huge backup this morning with people trying to turn left by Kenmore. It's a big enough road that it should be plowed better anyway, but especially with the schools.

It is next level nuts they are now enforcing it starting today. Someone find some logic. I'm baffled.

I’m confused about the timing. It’s in effect as of 9:00 am today, but does that mean everyone has 24 hours (as it was previously suspended), or is everyone suddenly in violation? And if we get snow again tonight, presumably that restarts the clock? I just went out to give it another stab, but unfortunately my back can’t take it anymore. I would formally assert a physical disability exemption at this point, which I assume anyone my age could credibly assert.I seem to recall lawyers concluding that the ordinance is unconstitutional, so really it has no teeth. Or am I mistaken?

No one really cares about MAP testing.
