If it wasn’t a health crisis, then what was it??? It was a weird week. We didn’t imagine that. Why was he MIA for a whole week with no explanation? Why didn’t he speak to workers on Labor Day (aside from his rant that we get too many days off)? Why were they putting old photos and videos out there? Why did he stop going to Mar-a-lago? Why were they throwing things out the window? Why was he wearing a ball cap constantly for months and now his hair looks insane, like they are trying to comb over something?

I think he either had covid or some kind of medical procedure done, or he is losing it about the victims speaking tomorrow and spent days trying to figure out how to handle it. And then the best they could come up with was putting out a video trying to make him look like a role model for youth and schedule a flyover during their press conference.

Well, to be fair he was on TV and, though he looked like crap and spewed non-stop nonsense and lies, he actually seemed like his usual uninformed, unintelligent, vindictive, confused self.

I do think it's weird that he hid from the spotlight for a week. As a PP put it a few pages back, Trump never met a camera he didn't want to blather at - so something was clearly up. Maybe Covid, maybe round-the-clock meds, maybe some other procedure. Anyway, unfortunately, he's back and seems no worse for it.

Vance (and Rubio) always have those moments. All the smart ones who are not serial killer-level sociopaths (Stephen Miller) do: when they hear something that is appallingly stupid because it is so verifiably untrue, their bodies react in spite of themselves. Poor Rubio has started to train himself to underreact. He now wears such a blank face that he looks like a robot. His wife probably coaches him at home and this was the best way they could come up with to control the involuntary flinches of the early days. Vance is still more of an open book, lamely trying to cover up reactions (surprise, confusion, stupefied, superiority) with a faux smug smile. You see it all the time when he is being booed in public, too.

I hope so. I think the only way for him to survive this is if he separates himself from maga. He might have a fighting chance.
