There’s a potential for another round.

Who is left to lay off?

900 employees

You really think those left will be hit by layoffs?

Were those at IDA affected earlier this week permanently let go or are they on some other wait and see status?

100 or so true layoffs. A whole lot more furloughed or shifted to part time. A friend there says the management is working pretty hard to find sponsors/coverage for them. Makes sense, a reserve of expertise that can’t be quickly (re)constituted is a main selling point of a studies FFRDC.

IDA seems to do the same studies over and over again. Booz, CACI, Leidos, and other body shops can easily do these rinse and repeat task orders.

Your grasp of the full breadth of the company’s work is as impressive as it is real.

If IDA is laying everyone off, there isn't much breadth that is left.

Reading comprehension and basic math skills appear equally strong.

Hope you don't work for IDA. These kinds of comments on a public forum aren't a great look.

The FFRDCs get 5 year IDIQ contracts and do have to go through a process for renewal. It's hard to hire and develop strong technical staff.

What about CSIOS Corp?

Good luck to you and your colleagues.

Inferential skills right up there, too.

Put your mind at ease. I’m just a random guy who opposes internet-based “expertise BAD!” stupidity in all its forms. Frankly still not sure who all IDA actually works for in OSD.

It’s a small FFRDC that writes reports for DoD I think.

IDA, MIT/LL, and MITRE are all FFRDCs. So similar in that way. The differences are more subtle.

MIT/LL and Mitre are "systems engineering" FFRDCs; so they also will both design and build prototypes.

IDA does some systems work, but mostly IDA just writes paper reports. As far as I know, IDA does not design or build anything.

Good. FFRDCs should be putting on a public face like the most boring of government agencies, not selling themselves like a contractor.
