Have to visit; scene at Brown might be more appealing than Duke to some. To me, probably.

The fact that you think it is legitimate to do this, knowing nothing about the student who is choosing their next home, tells me you are going about this all wrong.

UMD Honors (instate tuition and great engineering program, but not a great social fit at all)

Princeton (generous aid, Ivy, loves the campus, and residential housing, it's okay as far as social fit)

Northwestern (likes the campus, school culture, great social fit, and engineering program, but hates the weather)

Rice (the best social fit, loves the school culture, and student is a native Houstonian, but the engineering program is not the strongest out of the group)

Is student from Texas or MD?

SMCM is such a great place for the kids that find it a good fit. Is the hope to study engineering? I know SMCM doesn’t have an engineering program so wondering how much appeal UNH has given direct admit engineering.

Need to visit - I know a few kids, including my own, who thought they preferred one school over the other and after visiting they thought the opposite.

For personality types:

Princeton if your DC is super, super self-assured, self-structured “straight and narrow” type. Not great for ND. Conservative

Duke good for athletes and Greek scene. Preppy

Yale of course has the above, but also a much, much larger mix of straight-up weirdos, which to me is a good thing.

Probably because it has such highly regarded MFA programs in theatre and painting. Artsy types always make the vibe a little more interesting.

Those are all so different. What does your DC want to study?

Gut response says UMD.

UMD for sure!

What does recruited mean in this context? If you mean athletically recruited, I am surprised Oberlin didn’t require ED.

If he wants engineering then I would have him go to the school that accepted him for engineering.

Hmm tough if going to be in NYC after grad. Miami is up and coming but would do Fordham for alumni connections.

Totally agree with you.
I do feel Fordham is not ranked well recently. Personally I prefer to Richmond, but I just do not know which is better regarded in the business world between Richmond and Miami.
I immigrated to US about 10 year ago, and this is my only son which will go to college this year. I do not know much about colleges in the US.

Poets and Quants ranks Fordham #20 for undergrad business.

Without knowing more, Bucknell. Nice campus experience, plus good job placement and networking especially in NY area, if that’s of interest.
