Need to visit - I know a few kids, including my own, who thought they preferred one school over the other and after visiting they thought the opposite.

For personality types:

Princeton if your DC is super, super self-assured, self-structured “straight and narrow” type. Not great for ND. Conservative

Duke good for athletes and Greek scene. Preppy

Yale of course has the above, but also a much, much larger mix of straight-up weirdos, which to me is a good thing.

Yalie here and your kid really needs to visit and then pick which school feels like the best fit. They are quite different. Yale was right for me, I never even considered Princeton or Duke, would not have been happy at either. Princeton seems like it's a lot preppier with a campus that feels country clubbish. Yale seems like it has a more interesting student body and setting in a small urban city. All have great academics. Yale has residential colleges, which I loved. I think Princeton recently added something similar.

Just wanted to say congratulations to all the parents and their kids - it's awesome to hear about so many kids with lots of good options. My oldest kid went with an ED school so we never had to help him choose. I don't know how I would advise in most of these cases, so good luck!

This choice is totally about which situation your kid vibes with. Can't go wrong. And this is more than luck; I want to meet your kid.

That is a weird perspective for any 18-year-old to have. You sure your kid really doesn't care about any of these things?

I am a NP. Not all teenagers enjoy the same things much like not all adults enjoy the same things. Lots of ways to have fun-that’s what fit is all about.

Yale for the win. Much better undergrad experience.

DP - didn't seem weird at all to me, your kid sounds awesome with a mature perspective.

Full Pay. But, with the scholarships/merit received they'd all be about $20-30K range.
Pre-health (dental, PT, or advanced nursing). They don't all have nursing, however, that is not the decided path. If that is the decision, could do an accelerated path after grad. We have a 520 that could cover the 4 years at these prices, and likely the accelerated program, as well.

Did NOT want a big school. Already decided against a T15 school that was a reach but made accepted. Too expensive, far away, and not the right fit after visiting and doing full tour. I thought DC was crazy but it's their decision and >$80K/year I get it.

Gettysburg

Bryn Mawr is far and away the most intellectual and rigorous school on this list. Attending Bryn Mawr is an incredible opportunity and not one that should be passed up.

Second for bryn mawr - network is way stronger and lasts throughout your life

+ 1 for Bryn Mawr, unless it is not the right fit. Visit and it should be a strong yes or no.

VA resident. Plans to go to grad school for sports science-related career. Chose these schools based on size but still D1 and campus life.

Davidson without question. The students absolutely love it and the education is incomparable. Plus, the alumni network is incredibly strong. Congrats!!!

Totally agree that Davidson is best school and amazing education. But specifically for Sport Science look hard at Wake. For some reason it attracts kids of famous people including sports stars. And has an AI sports science lab well funded. Would only pick that over Davidson if positive of sports path. Would pick Davidson and Wake over other too unless cost is factor.

A kid should know if they want Davidson or Wake--they are quite different. I would pick based on this and not on the academic quality (which is roughly equal). I toured with my twins and one was 100% in camp Davidson and the other was 100% in camp Wake. We toured a lot of schools and these were some of the only ones where their opinions diverged to such a degree.

We toured Davidson, expecting to love it (on paper) but we were all quite turned off. A definite no for us. So it seems very fit based.

In state I would choose W&M.

All good options for those fields. Where does student live now - and would Philly, NYC or DC be more enticing?

Tufts seems like the best school but I probably have a NE bias

I'd go UVA over Tufts myself

Congrats to your student! CS is an especially tough admit. Purdue is top notch and surprisingly good value, even for oos. I would run the numbers, ask student to name top 3, and then visit those if you can. Best of luck - can’t go wrong.
