Matthew perry died

I actually think he had something like bi polar because of his excessive drug and alcohol use.

Addicts are always lonely and keep their true selves away from everyone. So no one really did " know" him its sad when someone's life turns out like this. He seemed "sucessfull" but the inside didn't match the facade.

I believe a lot of addicts have some sort of depression issue. Margot Kidder had manic depression and claimed when her manic got her high is when she started drinking because she wanted to get higher.

Well, alcohol is a known depressant, so it might have actually chilled her out.

Talk about coordinated tributes!

Lisa's is so sweet, more personal than the others.

I thought Jen’s was more personal. Talk every day to him, loss, etc. I think she’s the only one who didn’t talk much about Friends but how she felt. JMO.

They're both personal, touching tributes, but it seems like Lisa and Matthew may have been closer. She wrote the foreword for his book. He brought her along as his guest when he hosted Piers Morgan. etc.

Lisa is the only one without a career.

Hardly. She has worked steadily, carried two cable series, and done voice work (Boss Baby!)

Illegal drugs were not suspected. That's just the process for the preliminary tox screen, followed by the more in-depth one. He had a number of prescription drugs on hand. The likely culprit, some mix that wasn't good with heat and possible dehydration.

There didn’t need to be any drug interaction or action to cause his death.

A middle aged man with a weakened heart, fresh off a fatiguing two hour pickle ball session, enters a hot tub which has the known effect of causing lowered blood pressure and increased heart rate. A hot tub mixed with dehydrated body (two hours working out) and weakened addict heart is a clear recipe for cardiac arrest and drowning.

As I type this I’m sick at heart that this is, of course, the big question and obsession of so many people right now. Personally I hope he was sober but I’m sure he has some therapeutic levels of various stuff and some people will see that as the reason even if not.

I just wish he had been careful about his recovering body and using the tub. He should have always had his assistant or some other person in attendance while using the tub.

I hope some of the middle aged people with possible heart disease (many of us have some degree of it by midlife without even knowing it) reading about his death will reconsider using their own tubs solo because this is not a rare occurrence, it is very easy to pass out from the cardiovascular effects of hot tub immersion and then drowning is very easy from there.

Do you play pickleball pp? I do and I can tell you it isnt that taxing!

Yeah, and how long did you spend on ECMO? He was lucky to be alive given what his heart had already been through.

No because I'm not an addict. Look I'm almost finished reading his book and he does not come off looking well. Let's face it he was a total narcissist..blaming everyone for his mistakes and treating his family/ girlfriends/friends really poorly. He even admits it!

Sorry he wasted his life.

He entertained millions in a career that spanned decades, and published a highly successful memoir aimed at helping people suffering from addiction. To say he “wasted his life” is objectively false and stupid.

Ah yes but, he treated people in real life horribly including his family and his many girlfriends whom he cheated on! He had no moral compass and blamed others for his addictions. Sure he was a good actor but, that does not make him a good person! He wasted his life because when he wasn't filming he was DRUNK or HIGH. He was constantly contacting drug dealers and trying to get high. Then his time was spent in rehab.

He was always drunk or high. How is that not wasting his life? He admitted that people stood by him in rehab and spent five months sitting with him while in the hospital ( after his colon exploded) And how did he thank them? He didn't!

You should read the book. He is a massive narcissist and a big loser.

Didn’t he claim in his memoir at times he was hungover or high on set?

Also said his only Emmy nomination for the show came the year he was in rehab, driven to/from work.

And yet he claims the alcohol/drugs didn’t affect his work. Really? Pretty obvious it did.

Ask how many seasons that “Friends” fans enjoyed the character of Chandler, and the show’s writing, which Perry was the only cast mate assisted with. I think you’ll find the answer is all 10, Emmy nods or no Emmy nods.

For 10 years, he portrayed one of the most memorable and enjoyable characters on television, beloved by millions. That’s all.

I actually did not the character after the changes Matthew request of Chandler. No more vest sweaters and no more BE phrases. I actually think Chandler became boring with the Mondler storyline. I always liked the other characters much more than Chandler. And

But you kept on watching. So there’s that.

When it originally aired in 1994 I lost interest soon after Mondler and Vegas. Mondler was boring and yes/no with Ross and Rachel got very old. Back then I only watched the big episodes, wedding, baby, end. I have seen all the episodes since then mostly because they were on TBS when the news came on and I didn’t want to watch the sad news anymore.

I believe she’s worked on something every year since Friends. You can’t say the same about the others, not even Aniston has worked every year since Friends.

Huh? Her career is at the same level of Courtney Cox and both of them are doing way more than Ross and joey.

New poster: so you did watch all the episodes. If I dislike a show, I don’t watch it. You didn’t need that channel on before the news and, if you wanted an alternative to sad news or friends, your remote could have helped. You watched them bc you wanted to.

+1. There were plenty of other popular shows to watch at the time: Seinfeld, Frasier, Survivor, Will and Grace, Living Single, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Whose Line is it Anyway, Family Guy, American Idol…

Without being such a well liked character on Friends, no one would give a hoot about Matthew Perry. He was not a good actor in anything else so all this fawning over him is getting a bit ridiculous.

Lucky for him he played an iconic character on a show that was a hit for a decade, and well beyond in re-runs. Friends was the crowning achievement for every member of that cast, even ones in the minor roles. His comedic chops were impressive but he also did solid dramatic work elsewhere, eg the Good Wife, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, and Mr. Sunshine. The fact that he achieved what he did despite his knee-capping addictions is pretty astounding. Who knows what would have been possible were he more functional. But yes, of course he's beloved because of Friends. That show brought joy to millions.

That’s like saying but for being president, no one would have remembered Barack Obama as a politician. What a stupid thing to say.
