NP. Michael Oher was a hot football prospect before the Tuohys took him in. The Tuohys were huge football boosters for their kids' high school and for Ole Miss. They were rich and lived in a big house. All of their so-called charity was just done because of their love of the teams they supported.

The book the Blind Side was written by an old family friend of the Tuohys. The movie made Michael Oher look like Lenny from Mice and Men and the Tuohys like saints. Then they ensured that almost all of the profits from his story went to their biological family. To make all this happen without risking him being entitled to their "real" money, they lied to him and told him that adult adoption wasn't possible in Tennessee. And then they had him sign away the rights to his story by telling him that a conservatorship the same as being adopted. And as far as anyone can see they have capitalized on their so-called "charity" ever since.

They are sleazy and I'm not surprised that they hired Marty Singer.

As a practical matter, if your legal claim is significantly based on “I didn’t know X” and your autobiography says “X”, it’s going to be tough sledding for you. What, his ghostwriter was in on it? Any reasonable observer should, based on this evidence alone, conclude that the most likely scenario is that Oher is full of BS. Maybe not, but that’s the smart way to bet at this point, for those who need to have a view on the question.

Sure they probably are. Certainly patting your multi millionaire self on the back so much and so publicly for taking in a homeless kid is pretty ridiculous.

But they didn’t rip off Oher. He wants their fast food money. Can you point to even one financial document that shows they made even a million off of him? The SEC filings show they made $200 million off the fast food franchise sales. The 501c3 charity records show they drew no income from the foundation. The movie studio records show the family got $700k total over 10+ Years which they claim was split but even if not that’s not big $$ for either family. So where is the actual evidence they made millions off him? And how would they have planned that when he was a teen? If he was just a business for them then so far he’s been their worst investment.

How much money is on the foundation? How much coming in and going out a year? What’s the overhead and administration expenses? Nonprofit isn’t just about taking salaries, for many it’s to dodge taxes, leasing racket, influence, seek favor, and swing grants to cronies.

I literally posted the link. It’s less than 200k a year. This family is a hundred millionaire fast food franchise family. You think people went to their Taco Bell’s because they knew about Oher? They pay more in taxes than they ever earned from this kid. They helped bring him into the big leagues. He thinks he deserves more from them while at the same time hating them I guess. Im sure they are annoying and certainly full of themselves but that doesn’t mean they owe him their franchise money. Probably has people around him telling him he’s a victim somehow. good way to lose his spot in the will.

This is where you are wrong. If they had adopted him, then in most people’s view he would be entitled to a share of their estate. I realize the relationship went sour and no one owes their kid an inheritance but it’s also clear the breakdown occurred over the non-adoption.

I think a lot of folks find it disgusting that they touted his adoption but obviously avoided that route to ensure he wasn’t part of their estate. My references to the movie was to combat PP’s beliefs about how they met Michael. You are getting way too worked about about this and your refusal to acknowledge the lies surrounding adoption are f’ed up. Adoption is an issue close to my heart and my family and I (and others) have every right to be offended when someone makes up claims about adoption.

He believed the conservatorship was akin to adoption and needed because he was over 18. Which isn’t true. I don’t expect an 18 year old to question that. He probably didn’t fully grasp the difference for some time considering the lawyer who they hired to set up the conservator ship was also handing his business contracts.

If they didn’t mismanage his nfl earnings I have a hard time understanding why anyone thinks this is “clearly” anything. If he thought he was adopted and they didn’t treat him like family then that’s terrible and it hurts. But if they didn’t mismanage his nfl earnings or take from them, seems like it’s hard to argue they took advantage of him.

Also how was he led astray? He did better at ole miss than he would have other places because they took care of him because of the family. When in college he got into a fight with a fellow player. During the fight Michael threw a desk or chair and it hit a toddler who was a kid of an assistant coach. Toddler was rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Kid was ok. Ole miss coach got Sean. Sean paid a financial settlement to the assistant coach’s family. Sean also hired a lawyer who shot down the police investigation. Ole miss did not throw him out as they would have great player or not because of the book and the family. He was not led astray.

There is no estate. They are not dead. Do not use words when you do not know what they mean. Any kid can be cut out completely from a will at any time. So no this was not the reason. The reason was that this was what was needed to get past the NCAA. Adoption probably would not do it since he was over 18. And even if it did, adoption would take a long time. Conservatorship was probably done within two weeks.

So, what you are saying is that Michael is in the will just like their other 2 children?

Are there other 2 children suing them, trying to blackmail them and call them liars? You don't have to divide your estate up equally. Some parents may even think some kids need more help than others, especially if one of them already has net worth in the tens of millions.

The other kids are in the movie too. The studio wanted to use their real names and likenesses, so they are each entitled to something. Even if they changed the split to 50/Michael 50/tuihy family you’re taking about a $120,000 difference over 15 years. Really that’s what this lawsuit is over?

In fact the other son SJ was joking how he wishes he was a millionaire, as michael claims. he’s much less well off than Oher, he coaches football and does not live in million dollar house. Maybe he should sue Michael and the tuohys??

Oher probably needs money, got in over his head with debts, and is mad the tuohys won’t bankroll him. Looks like they won’t bankroll Sean jr either. Seems fair to me.

He was a prospect that could not get into college at all because of his grades. Family got Ms. Sue and paid for college courses to get his grades up. Also Ms sue moved to ole miss with him and tutored him at the family’s expenses. Movie is not right but to say they did nothing is wrong.

Ole miss did not throw him out as they would have great player or not because of the book and the family. He was not led astray.

Michael is probably worth not a lot. 34 million was his earning. 10 percent to agent 5 percent to lawyer/manager. Big amount to retirement. 40 percent of the rest to taxes. How much money is on the foundation? How much coming in and going out a year? What’s the overhead and administration expenses? Nonprofit isn’t just about taking salaries, for many it’s to dodge taxes, leasing racket, influence, seek favor, and swing grants to cronies.

This is where you are wrong. If they had adopted him, then in most people’s view he would be entitled to a share of their estate. I realize the relationship went sour and no one owes their kid an inheritance but it’s also clear the breakdown occurred over the non-adoption.

I think a lot of folks find it disgusting that they touted his adoption but obviously avoided that route to ensure he wasn’t part of their estate. That really undermines what an adoption is and doesn’t sit well with me personally. If they adopted him, he is a full fledged member of their family. But it sounds like, despite their talk about adoption, that’s not really what they wanted.

There is no estate. They are not dead. Do not use words when you do not know what they mean. Any kid can be cut out completely from a will at any time. So no this was not the reason. The reason was that this was what was needed to get past the NCAA. Adoption probably would not do it since he was over 18. And even if it did, adoption would take a long time. Conservatorship was probably done within two weeks.

So, what you are saying is that Michael is in the will just like their other 2 children?

Are there other 2 children suing them, trying to blackmail them and call them liars? You don't have to divide your estate up equally. Some parents may even think some kids need more help than others, especially if one of them already has net worth in the tens of millions.
