The Blind Side scandal

Their entire famous BRAND is based off “adopting” this Black “son.” It’s the lede of every bio and speech they give. They are con artists.

If he is still under conservatorship, is he even legally married? Wouldn’t he need their permission to get married? I’m sure his wife is behind some of this - she has no legal recourse here as long as he is under a conservatorship.

And what about his kids? What is the legal status of children born to someone under conservatorship?

The conservatorship is likely financial only in nature. Conservatorships can vary in scope. They likely only petitioned to control his assets, not his person.

The bottom line is they'll have to account to the court for their actions or inactions as conservators. It's wrong at baseline that they never filed required accountings, but that can be rectified now, and the court will likely require it to be.

This isn't true. The conservatorship explicitly granted the parents power over health decisions, access to his health records, and power over any contracts he could sign (which, I suppose, could also include a marriage license).

The PP raises a good point about whether Oher's marriage license is even valid. You'd probably need to look at state laws and prior judicial precedents. Maybe Oher could get married in an other state, but a TN marriage license might not be valid. It's a really tricky situation from a legal perspective.

Because there was no source for the money. Do you know how any of this works? Where or who would the money come from?

The judge is going to demand to know why they haven't filed any reports of the conservatorship for the last 18 years. If there's no activity to report, they can attest to the judge under the penalty of perjury.

Pretty simple to do. Unless, of course, they are trying to hide something from Oher.

But as they say in the movies: "Tell it to the judge."

Ok. Seems like this is going to be pretty straightforward. Oher has all his NFL money, book money and all the other money he's made. Seems he wants to look back at the Blindside money. But unlike the vast majority of conservatorship cases, Oher has been in charge of all his own finances for a very long time. There's no there, there as they say. There's no secret revenue generating stream of Michael's money that they have any control over and he doesn't. You can't even offer one example of what this could all be about. Other than "we can't possibly know!" Which is totally bizarre.

Well, holding yourselves out as having adopted someone that you did not is bizarre; allowing the conservatorship to be created and continue is bizarre; making money off of/feeding your narcissism via exploiting the life story of at risk youth is bizarre/morally repugnant. There needs to be an accounting of the conservatorship and likely the tax records of the family to the extent that they claimed him as a dependent, etc.

You’re describing a fishing expedition. This is not what the court is going to order.

Someone in this thread is 1) close to Oher 2) as delusional as Oher.

You have to have an actual legal theory of harm plus evidence of it for this case to go anywhere. Missing filings for a defunct conservatorship ain’t it.

DP. Huh? Asking for required reporting to be done is not a fishing expedition. And even if there was no money involved, which seems to be your whole premise, they still may have been required to fulfill their reporting obligations (in much the same way non-filers may, depending on the circumstance, still be required to file a tax return).

They aren’t controlling anything.

The conservatorship was a rude to get around the NCAA rules against boosters providing financial support to recruited athletes.

A judge said she ended the conservatorship, which she found disturbing since it was formed with no disability involved. She further allowed his case to go forward re: profiting from his name, image and likeness. FFs Luanne Touhy profited a good deal from claiming to be his adoptive mom!

People: "Oher has also requested that the Tuohys provide a financial record of all funds that they’ve received as a result of the agreement, which allowed them to use his name, image and likeness. That portion of his case will continue, the judge said, per ESPN, and will not be dismissed."

What would we do if PP wasn’t providing these critical “news” items from Daily Mail?

How many millions did they shake down over the last 20 years while framing themselves as white saviors who adopted a Black son and turned him into an NFL superstar?

According to the movie. Not according to reality.
