The whole "billionaires can't be bought, we should vote for them, be suspicious of career civil servants" is just so laughable. |
Why would you think that? I've never noticed that people who have a lot of money are uninterested in money. |
If this is the kind of rhetoric Trone supporters were using, no wonder he got destroyed. It's also disgusting this prior poster is accusing Alsobrooks of corruption based apparently in nothing more than the fact that she's not a billionaire? That logic, especially when lined up with the events of the past ten years, is atunning. |
+1 Hogan made a number of decisions as Governor that benefited himself and his companies. Alsobrooks hasn’t done that. |
The PG County executive being “less likely to be bought” is not something that I have ever heard said before, nor does it make sense when you say it out loud. |
Hogan did a lot of shady financial stuff while in office. What has Alsobrooks done? And no, "being county executive of Prince George's County" is not inherently shady, for people who aren't racists. |
What is with the rabid trone people going negative AFTER the election? It actually sounds like the Entitled billionaire himself. Do you think hogan will be more progressive on crime??!! What exactly do you accomplish by not voting for Alsobrooks? Can’t quite get your endgame. Smells like a tantrumming billionaire to me.
I’m a swing voter suburbanite registered dem but like hogan. I never would have voted for trone over hogan but will consider alsobrooks. Anyone who lives in eastern dc/Md knows how shes managed Pg county better than dc through the pandemic. She’s proven herself to me. I’m so over all the wealthy progressive saviors who are just power hungry. Go fund a college or library if you really want to give back to the society you’ve gotten so much from. |
People that play the race card have already lost. Here are some basic facts. Jack Johnson was the most corrupt politician in the last few decades in a state that is not known for good governance. So the bar is low. Jack Johnson was Angela Alsobrooks political mentor. |
So what you're saying is that Jack Johnson was corrupt, therefore Angela Alsobrooks is corrupt. And what I'm saying is that Larry Hogan was corrupt, therefore Larry Hogan is corrupt. There is no "winning" or "losing" an argument here. This isn't high school debate. |
Despite Johnson being her mentor, Alsobrooks has shown over the last 15 years that she handles things differently. As a county prosecutor, she reduced violent crime by roughly 50%. She was tough on crime. She targeted lower income high risk areas making them safer. She increased staffing for the district attorney's office and divided the team into regions so that each team could specialize in a given part of the county. And she had them focus on quality of life, so that they put in efforts to ensure prosecution of those cases that would improve the regions quality of life (such as decreasing street crime in affected areas). She followed in Rushern Baker's policies to eliminate the Johnson pay-to-play environment and kept it that way. Despite having Johnson as a mentor, she continued her predecessor's policies that avoided the corruption atmosphere in the county offices. She also focused on improving schools. She worked with her school board and school superintendent to decrease truancy and provide stronger social services support for students, and focused on reducing truancy and crime in local areas. She's worked hard and smart to improve conditions in PG County significantly. She's also a very good proponent of women's rights and will be a helpful voice in the Senate if/when the abortion issue comes up. First, through her work as the county DA, she can speak quite knowledgably about the necessity for the victims of rape to need access to abortion. Also both as county DA and as county executive, she also spent a lot of time analyzing lower income and minority regions of her county to know how abortion access is critical to improving lives in lower income areas. We have too many old, wealthy white men who have virtually zero understanding of lower income and minority issues and concerns who are making decisions that affect the entire country. Trone's voice would just add to that chorus without adding any new perspective or any personal knowledge or experience to the discussion. Alsobrooks can address this topic from much more personal knowledge and experience. She also will be a much better judge of judicial candidates than a Beer and Wine distributer. Frankly, a candidate with her experience as a lawyer/prosecuter and county executive is much more valuable than a beer and wine distributer who thinks that money solves everything but has virtually no real world experience. |
More importantly, she will be a much better judge of judicial candidates than a Republican senator who used to be a Republican governor, now matter how much the Republican governor who is running as a Republican candidate for Senate tries to tell us that he's not a Republican who will be a Republican, he's a Republican who will be an independent! |
Hogan was recruited by McConnell. McConnell did not recruit an independent. He recruited a Republican. Hogan is against gun control and against protecting the right to abortion (e.g. basic healthcare for women). He's not going to vote against an anti-abortion SCOTUS nominee, no way. He also wasn't an awesome governor. He failed to get the Purple Line built and oversaw stalled economic growth in MD. |
All that only really matters if the Dems control the Senate. And Hogan is stronger against Alsobrooks than he polled against Trône. We will see. |
The polls also had Trone beating Alsobrooks. |
That was 3 months ago. |
