FCPS Masking Update

^I am with the “insensitive poster.” I think it’s appropriate for teachers to share why they personally will continue or not continue masking but not appropriate to ask a class to mask on their behalf. If they have a true medical need that requires everyone around them in a cloth mask vs. they themselves wearing an N95 mask, they should discuss that with their boss. An official note should be sent to the parents. (Note this would never happen.)

Don’t really appreciate the teacher pushing her opinion/beliefs on my DC. Feels a little bit like she’s pushing her political beliefs on my DC. The law is the law and feel like teachers should just be silent on the subject. My DC is there for an education not her opinion on masking.

PS - DC will probably keep wearing a mask after March 1.

Oh will you just STFU. YOu have no idea why he or she asked that: maybe there is an underlying health condition, or someone at home has one. Stop being such a whiny, little b---- and taking offense at everything.

I think it is fine for a Teacher or another student to ask their classmates to wear masks because of a specific issue like they are pregnant or have a compromised immune system or are high risk and that masks provide some extra protection for them to be able to stay at school. The school can't make the kids wear masks but I don't have a problem with someone who has a health issue explaining that and ask people to wear a mask. I would hope that anyone doing that would be wearing one of the better masks that work most effectivly.

Masks are not a political decision, they are a health issue.

Sure they are, if the person needing protection is wearing the best mask they can and they accept kids wearing crap cloth masks that do nothing.

This is fun! A race to see who can follow the "science" first. Will the CDC squeak in before 3/1? Watch to find out!

Most people still can’t remember why we started wearing cloth masks in the first place. We did because N95s were not available to the masses. Now they are. On top of that those cloth masks do nothing. Wear an N95 and get vaccinated. Take some personal responsibility.

Some people can't afford N95 masks on an ongoing basis.

The entire pandemic was a health issue. But that did not stop politicians from politicizing the hell out of the pandemic.

Remember Kamala Harris characterizing it as “Trump’s vaccine” and expressing doubts about it during the campaign?

Ward 8 in D.C. remembers what she said. And her remarks explain why “vaccine hesitancy” is highest in Ward 8, which still has the lowest vaccination rate in the region.

Cloth masks on vaccinated 5 year olds are 100% a political issue.

Then those people need to seek assistance. Entire populations whether it be school or otherwise aren’t going to wear masks because a, I’d imagine small percentage of people who think they are vulnerable to virus can’t afford N95s, even after being vaccinated. That’s not a good enough excuse, teachers should be provided by good masks by the SB if they request it, and local community go fund me type of initiatives should be considered for those families that request it. This will never be a prevent every last case of Covid situation and never has been.

Exactly. Any teacher that tries to coerce kids into masking after 3/1 deserves a pink slip.

The list of VA school accreditation requirements should include not harassing or intimidating students, for any reason, in violation of state law.

(not wearing any mask is also taking personal responsibility, and is just fine)

That’s my point. People should be able to choose what’s right for them. Before the options were limited. Now they are not.

Hey forever maskers - while you were too busy to read the data around masks actually not working, did you fail to see that the pandemic is essentially as over as it will EVER be? You people love to cite "case numbers" versus anything that means anything - but those case numbers have plummeted. The only people testing positive these days are the wackos who insist on testing every day for their runny nose. But go ahead - keep wearing your nasty N95 (which, btw, is meant to be changed after EVERY patient encounter) - or your facial decoration.
