Round 2 schools

Anonymous
The Washington Post did an article this morning on a tool DCPS put out. The tool lets you pick a grade and "maximum waitlist length" to find schools worth applying to in Round 2.

Post article:
Wait list tool: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/local/wp/2015/04/10/where-to-apply-and-not-to-apply-in-round-2-of-the-d-c-school-lottery/
http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Learn+About+Schools/Lottery+and+Admissions:+Apply+to+Our+Schools/Where+to+Apply+in+Round+2

Has anyone come across a decent PK4 school with a short wait list?

In Ward 6, JO Wilson and Van Ness seem like people might have a chance at spots at those schools. Not sure about Van Ness, but JO Wilson is a great school.

I don't get it-- how can there be kids on the waitlist, yet many spots available at a school?
Anonymous
and again you put no Powell on your list.

Sela looks like a solid bet.

there are open spots in some grades and kids on waitlists for other grades?

Powell has 72 on its waitlist for English-dominant and 22 for Spanish-dominant. They only offered 10 spaces for each. Not a good round 2 pick.

Van Ness seems like it will be a pretty good option. Great location and it will be renovated this summer.

No, for some schools like, for example, Aiton PK3, there are 2 kids on the wait list, yet 19 seats listed as not matched in round 1. http://dcps.dc.gov/DCPS/Learn+About+Schools/Lottery+and+Admissions:+Apply+to+Our+Schools So isn't the relevant question how many seats are available, rather than the length of the wait list?

If you don't like the data DCPS released then complain to them not me. If you question my logic in thinking that the number of people on the waitlist is the relevant measure then by all means please also take that up with DCPS since, and I quote, "Round 1 results of the My School DC lottery were released on Friday, March 27. If you did not recieve a match in Round 1, you are eligible to submit an application in Round 2 (deadline May 8). To identify schools with waitlists of manageable lengths, select a grade and maximum length below."

Agree with what PP said, Also, as the person who posted the data, please go away! Not only do you have a persecution complex but you couldn't be bothered to post the actual WL numbers, you just wanted to whine and complain. The extract came from the DC data set as posted. The fact that DCPS data extracts like that is too bad. But (1) you didn't pay me to do it so go away and (2) you aren't even being productive and supplementing the data. So, to summarize, please go away.

When more than 50% of the Powell population can read well enough to know what is posted then come talk to me.

*52% below proficient.

Get over yourself, there is no reason to be nasty.
