Those opposed to "gay marriage" will you explain your position to me?

Will you please explain outside of religion, why you would want the government from keeping two consenting adults from getting married?
I'm excluding religion, because that isn't part of the argument. We have freedom of religion in America and no one is asking to force churches to marry them. I'm talking about something that American citizens have the privileged of, why would you want to deny that to any other American citizen? I seriously want to understand your viewpoint because I don't. Educate me? |

Oh I meant to make that clear. I'm female, I'm white, I've only been with one man who I am married to. I am republican and catholic. I fully and completely support gay marriage. I think its stupid we even have to debate it, it shouldn't be a question. I do truly want to understand the argument though. I'm curious do you PP, ever hold hands or kiss your partner in public? Or do you not like any PDA. Also, curious, have you been forced to attend a gay wedding? I'm not understanding the "shoving it in my face" thing, please explain? |

17:39 here. I'm a believer in, when in Rome, do as the Romans. If I don't want to wear a burka, I'm not touring places where women wear burkas.
Some people just want to stand out and do whatever it takes. Maybe they didn't get enough parental attention when they were little children. |

I see plenty of repulsive straight couples in public. Just because a couple makes you squirm doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to marry. |

| I don't get this either. My dad who is almost 70 and a midwestern republican even has started to say things like "the gays should be able to get married". It started out ten years ago as "the gays need civil unions that are like marriages but not" and gradually has morphed to agreeing the right should be for all. I feel like if my dad can come around then most people must be seeing the light! I hope at least!!! |

OP again: Well if you have any type of sex other than penis in vagina with the express purpose of conceiving technically unnatural, in some religions (including mine) its also technically a sin. Welcome to being a human being. So if you have never ever had oral, anal or hand sex in any way and only ever have ejaculated into a vagina or had your vagina ejaculated into with the express purpose of conceiving, then okay, you can say gays can't get married. I'll concede. |

NP- I'm guessing 17:39 wants everyone to be closeted so he/she can pretend there are no gay people. I really hope no one in their family, especially their kids, are gay. Such a hateful way to go through life. |
