Our German Shepherd's birthday is tomorrow and he'll be 5. We were thinking about going to the Springfield Butcher to see if they have any smoked bones or even leftover raw bones for him. In past years he's gotten a car ride where he got to sit up front (loves this but usually gets put in the backseat), a trip to Petsmart to pick out a new toy, and an antler - his first birthday we didn't have him yet.
Do you celebrate your pet's birthday? Or if you don't know when it is, maybe the anniversary of the day you adopted them? |
| I may vomit. |
| Yes! We have a little parrot and we celebrate his birthday every year. We don't know when he was born (hatched!), but we've got an assigned day based on an estimate. He gets a toy and we always have a cake, usually carrot. (There was a time when we had a seed cake but it didn't go over well with the humans.) He loves yams and peanut butter, so that's always on the menu was well! |
| Yes, of course. Special foods for them and new toys. |
| We do cake and sing |
Relax, PP. If you've got kids, this is very fun to do. My kids make presents etc. The other group who tend to do this is young couples. I think they often use pets as practice for kids (although they may not realize it. Sort of like playing house) |

No, I don't do anything for my pet's birthday. Of course, I (a) am not an idiot; (b) do not anthropomorphize animals; (c) have a life, and (d) know that my cat doesn't care about her birthday. How do I know this? Because she's a fucking cat.
I swear, I read things like this and I start to believe that universal suffrage is a tragic mistake. |
I did. A little bit. In my mouth. |
| Of course! It's day for us as much as her. we go on extra long walks and give a new toy and special treat. It's nice to stop and remember the joy our pets bring to our lives. |
| Um....no |
Boy, some kid is going to be so lucky to have you as a parent! You're just so fun and full of life! |

We have a huge party, invite all the loners at the Vet's office, the neighborhood pets, have a human bouncy house, pet friendly organic cake and ice cream, some chew bones maybe. Then as it gets dark, we do a fire pit, drink monkey wine and tell tales of spaying and neutering. Pee and poo in the yard.
Look forward to this all year !! |
| Yes we do. A special treat and we sing happy birthday |
| Oh my god people. IT'S A DOG. |
+1 I'm sorry life has made you so bitter. Makes me grateful for my cheerful outlook. |
