Waking up with a headache every day, please help!

Anonymous
This has been going on for a few weeks: I wake up with a headache, mild nausea and stiff neck.

I've been taking tylenol and that clears it up, but is there anything I can do to prevent these headaches?

What do you think is the cause?
I've been wondering if it's a sinus headache, but that supposedly causes pain in the forehead area, and wouldn't involve the neck.
I do have a stuffy nose on and off all day, I figure it's just allergies and don't know if it's related.

Thanks in advance!

try a humidifier, it sounds like sinuses to me and the air in your house might be too dry. Of course also visit your doctor!

keep simply saline by the best and use everytime you wake up in the night (I wake at least once for bathroom thank you pregnancies!!). I also take a shower before going to bed to help sinuses but also to get pollen out of my hair and on the pillow. Hepa filter also and ditto humidifier. Good advice on water.

Do a sleep study.

Any chance you're grinding or clenching your teeth while you sleep?

I had this on going almost all winter. Finally it dawned on me that it was a sinus infection. Got antibiotics from CVS and it's all cleared up. Don't suffer anymore!

The nurse basically told me that if it's going on longer than a week, they will diagnose it as a bacterial infection.

Might be what PPs mentioned.

Have you been having anything sweet/sugary before bed?

I've had the same and it was due to dehydration.

Try replacing or washing your pillows. I can get headaches if I sleep on my pillows wrong. It would also help if it's allergy related.

If you have been taking Tylenol for more than 1-2 days, you could be caught up in rebound headaches. I had a headache doc tell me tylenol is a big culprit for this. She recommended switching to Advil and trying to ride out a day or two of headaches to test and see if it could be rebound headaches.

Yeah, sounds like dehydration to me also. Although since you have a stiff neck also, you might want to check out your pillows.

Could be an estrogen serge. Could be allergies. I also have problems with the air vent being over my side of the bed and drying my sinuses out. It helps to use saline spray in that case.
