+1 to 16:01--this is not a joke.
Was going to say wine OR mineral water can give me those symptoms. Also caffeine--when people wake up extra tired and esp. if a headache, for many it's because you're going through caffeine withdrawal and that's why many people love their morning coffee--they don't realize they have created this cycle. |
I get this every single spring. The headache is awful, all day, everyday, during the spring. It is gone by summer, and returns next spring. |
| Call your doctor. When you have a headache plus nausea --especially in the morning -- you want to rule out a tumor. I think that is a lot less likely than the other suggestions but you should still see a doctor. |

OP here, thanks everyone!
Based on these suggestions, I put a desktop-type humidifier on my bedside table last night, drank extra water yesterday and slept with only one pillow (usually I use 3). This morning I have a faint headache, but not nearly as bad as yesterday. I feel slightly nauseated, but again not as bad as before! I do drink 2- 3 cups of coffee and/or tea each day: is that enough to cause withdrawal headaches? I have an appointment with my doctor next month, so I will also mention it to him. I didn't realize that allergies can cause headaches like this either, I do have allergies but don't take anything for them. I'm not sure if I grind my teeth or not, my jaw does feel a little stiff in the am--guess I'm just falling apart all around! I'm just glad the pain isn't as bad today!! |
OP here, yes we have one but haven't had it plugged in recently. Good idea to plug it in again and make sure all the levels are safe. Thanks for the suggestion! |
| I think it's dehydration too. My eyes have had a tough winter. I have three humidifiers now - one by bedside, one by home office desk, one at the office - all aimed at my eyes (or in your case the sinus area). DS also has been getting nosebleeds, another sign of excessive dryness. Do you have humidifiers in your home central air system? |

I stopped chewing sugarless gum, and my headaches disappeared within a few days.
haven't had one for months! |
| allergies! |
| This happens to me in the spring with allergies. Made a big difference to take an allergy pill every day. Just try it for a week or two and see if it helps. Fluids too. |
| Start your day drinking a few glasses of water with lemon. |
I would also add drinking 1-2 glasses of water just before bed. Your body naturally dehydrates overnight just from breathing. Keep water on your nightstand to drink if you wake up at night and/or have a large bottle first thing in the morning as well. Even if it is not dehydration these are good habits to have. |

Teeth grinding. I had NO idea I do this at night.
My dentist asked if I get headaches--said he can see I grind my teeth. |
| This happened to me and it turned out to be related to my teeth! I now wear a Retainer 24/7 and have no headaches! |
| Third vote for teeth grinding or jaw clenching. As your partner if they can hear you doing it. Ask your dentist if there are any signs. Get a custom made mouth guard to wear. Was life changing for me. |
