I read last evening in a popular women's magazine that it is very important to keep your belly fat at bay.
It stated that excessive belly fat could affect one's life span and make them more prone to cancer, stroke, diabetes and cardiovascular issues. I just used a measuring tape and measured mine. 44". Yikes not good. I heard if you are over 34" you have too much belly fat. So I guess I need to lose 10' inches off of my waist. What is your opinion on this? Is belly fat really that much different than carrying excess fat on other parts of the body? |

Belly fat – or central obesity, as the technical term — is often a marker for metabolic syndrome/insulin resistance.
It's not clear (although some people will insist it is) whether it is cause or effect, but it's a good indication that you need to watch your health very carefully. Get your A1C and blood pressure checked. If you don't already do a cardio exercise, start one. And, of course, try to eat well. |
| Studies have indeed repeatedly pointed to the conclusion that belly fat is indeed much worse than extra fat on other parts of the body. The association between belly fat and bad health outcomes is pretty solidly established. |
| Unfortunately belly fat is also the hardest to lose- especially when you're older and have baby belly fat mixed in. |
| Make sure you are measuring your waist correctly. You may not be as bad as you think. |
What is the proper way to measure your middle? I already have the measuring tape.

Another good measure is your waist to hip ratio.
