It is possible that any "tweaks" regarding school boundaries will be announced during this event:
http://mayor.dc.gov/release/mayor-bowser-make-education-policy-and-personnel-announcement Mayor Bowser to Make Education Policy and Personnel Announcement Mayor Muriel Bowser and Deputy Mayor for Education Jennie Niles will host a press conference to make a personnel and education policy announcement. Who: Mayor Muriel Bowser Deputy Mayor for Education Jennie Niles Where: Randall Highlands Elementary School 1650 30th Street, SE Washington, DC 20020 When: Friday, February 27 at 11 am |
Great, days before the lottery closes. |
DC press staff can't spell Randle Highlands. Whomp, whomp. |
Well, the Mayor's press release regarding full deployment of garbage trucks this weekend announced a "All Hanks on Deck" policy. So, I assume Hank Williams, Hank Aaron, etc. will all be deployed. |
At least it's before the lottery closes? If it's anything at all. |
Speculation? I can't imagine Henderson is out, when Bowser said she would keep her. |
I hadn't even thought of that, but why isn't Henderson mentioned as being included at the press conference? |
Personnell announcement? Yikes?!! I think PP is right. I think Henderson is out. Also any boundary tweeks will likely be more grandfathering (no impact on lottery). |
I agree that grandfathering is the likely tweak, but there are folks in my neighborhood who will make final lottery choices depending on whether or not we have a pathway to Deal. |
Uh, yeah more grandfathering would impact lottery. For people hoping to get an OOB spot somewhere, learning that a new group of kids is grandfathered impacts that calculation of trying determine your chances and would therefore impact your lottery picks and rankings. I'm not lotterying...my kids are where they need to be so I don't have a vested interest, but saying it would have no impact on the lottery is just wrong. |
It says personnel announcement. I think the speculation is correct about Kaya. |
Just noticed that Kaya's normally-active twitter feed has been silent for past 36 hours. Bad sign. |
Perhaps the Chancellor plowing ahead on her plan for a boys only school intended only for AA and Latino boys with a hand-picked partner from Chicago (minus any RFP competitive bidding process) made her a target. Or maybe it's the way Proving What's Possible funding was handled last year (simple $100 per kid rather than targeting at risk). |
anyone what media outlet will likely be there, reporting quickly? Post, WTOP? |
Good question. How best to get that info quickly? Are such announcements usually tweeted or streamed live? |
