Trump - “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

For example, when I think of crooked European politicians, I do NOT think of Scandinavians. And I say this as someone who has zero Scandinavian ethnicity.

This is why a certain political leader in the 30s/40s idolized them and thought they were the ideal race.

Are you implying tolerance for corruption is a good thing?

What false crap. This was a private meeting! The NGO works I know call it a shithole. One calls it "Harlem with Palm Trees."

Haiti has some great people. True! But they shouldn't have preferences to stay here.

America first, not Haiti first.

Then that is as NGO who should be called out, that is BS.

The people of Haiti have been through so much. Too much. I don’t want them, or anyone to experience pain put upon them again and again by the same people.

Source this or you are still using them, you patriarchal pigs.

Is Senator Durbin legit enough? If not, how about Senator Graham?

Durbin said he said “hate-filled things” repeatedly. I stood in an elevator when Durbin told us he “had a guy” before Barak Obama was elected. So there is that. Durbin is calculating.

I used the term shithole to describe my hometown decimated by manufacturing jobs moving to Mexico.

Durbin said there isn't anything that has been reported that isn't accurate.

A president of the US should not use that kind of language when speaking with Senators, period. Some of the NGO people you work with sound racist (and unfamiliar with gentrification in harlem, BTW). Haiti (like many african countries) is an ally of the US. Perhaps your idiot POTUS wants them to ally with China or Russia?

And so the President of the United States, who purports to speak for ALL AMERICANS, shouldn't be held to a higher standard?

Wouldn't you rather know what Trump is really thinking, even if it is naughty?

I dont know, why dont you ask the admin which changed regs to make it easier for US oil companies to give bribes to foreign officials?

I do know that fighting corruption does not mean idolizing people based on the color of their skin.

Except they DID have poverty prior to adopting welfare state policies, same as other european countries, which is one reason they adopted then. Pretty sure there have been poor Scandinavian americans too.

Friedman was a specialist in macro and monetary economist, not a labor economist, much less a sociologist.

Post-WWII Europe was a shithole most of us cannot imagine.

All meeting need to be on the record from now on.

No more working meetings with primaries.

Baloney. I’m descended from Norwegian American immigrants (fourth generation on one branch, fifth on the other) and there was most definitely poverty among them. That’s such racist baloney.

It's more about a further degradation of the standing of the United States in the world. I guess you are ok with the US sinking to banana republic status, ie a shithole.

"She called us deplorables"

"That kind of condescension is why Trump won"

"grow up people"

Why don't you say grow up to a Haitian American Republican congressman?

I look forward to your tears when you lose the Senate election in Florida. Your corrupt pandering to one state on offshore drilling will end up doing you no good.

No. They are not shitholes. Their people are not less worthy of respect and dignity.

Would you want to go to Haiti to deliver a child? http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/Haiti/United-States (Infant mortality is 9x higher in Haiti)

Do you want to enroll your children in Zimbabwe's school system? http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/United-States/Zimbabwe/Education (Literacy rate 87 for femals)

Do you think you would feel safe leaving your elderly mother to walk the streets in Rwanda at night? http://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/Rwanda/United-States/Crime (Murders per capita is 4x higher)

Do you feel like you can freely express your views in Asmara in Eritrea? https://freedomhouse.org/report/freedom-world/2015/eritrea (Ranked one of the most politically repressive regimes worldwide)

These countries need a lot of help and aren't places that you would choose to raise a family in given other options.

In other words we need to have compassion for those trying to leave and move here, right? You said it yourself- it’s no place to live and raise a family.

And here is the liberal view summed up. Our immigration policy has to be based on “compassion.” Whether or not it benefits this country or the people in it is irrelevant. Victimhood is prized above all.

Of course President Trump is fully aware of that history.

Right...and the US (through the CIA) helped keep corrupt despots in power there who were robbing the people blind because those dictators were staunchly anti-Communist and the US was scared of what happened in Cuba. Our actions also played a huge part in destabilizing El Salvador - another "shithole" on Trump's list. I swear that people need to read and learn history beyond what they are told on news channels.
