Trump - “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

Anonymous
Do we have a legit source yet?

The people of Haiti have been through so much. Too much. I don’t want them, or anyone to experience pain put upon them again and again by the same people.

Source this or you are still using them, you patriarchal pigs.

Haiti spent over 100 years paying back a debt to France. A debt that included compensation for the property loss due to freeing the slaves! Think about that.

Of course President Trump is fully aware of that history.

None of the Senators present has denied it. Trumps tweets only say that was not the exact wording used. Some journalist (from conservative National Review, I think) says the word was "shithouse" , not "shithole". So technically, we would be correct that it was not the exact wording used.

African immigrants in the U.S. make up some of the most highly educated and employed groups here.

It does not even matter whether or not the countries they come from are shitholes.

Africans who come here make it. Shouldn't that be what's important?

Well, not to Trump. We already know this.

Anyone care to answer?

You know all the answers, why won’t you tell us?

The question for me is not really whether these places are shitholes, but whether we should discriminate against immigrants from there simply because they had the misfortune of being born in a shithole rather than a rich country like Norway. One of the smartest people I know is from Haiti, and they were fortunate to receive schooling in the US and reach their potential.

Someone said to Milton Friedman, "There is no poverty in Scandinavia" and Friedman replied "There is no poverty among Scandinavian Americans". Friedman's point is that lack of poverty among Scandinavians is due not because of government polices, but because of their culture, such as attitudes toward work, honesty, and so forth.

For example, when I think of crooked European politicians, I do NOT think of Scandinavians. And I say this as someone who has zero Scandinavian ethnicity.

This is why a certain political leader in the 30s/40s idolized them and thought they were the ideal race.

Is Senator Durbin legit enough? If not, how about Senator Graham?

God forbid we have a President who actually uses good judgment when it comes to running this country

Even the White House didn't deny it! If it's not true, wouldn't they deny it?

My parents came from one of those countries but proudly took an oath of allegiance to the United States and took on the responsibilities of everything that being a citizen comes with. They never took a thing from our federal government. They worked hard, paid taxes, and rose from nothing to take care of and provide opportunities for their children. They taught their children to do the same. That’s the American Dream. The President must apologize to both the American people and the nations he so wantonly maligned."

What false crap. This was a private meeting! The NGO works I know call it a shithole. One calls it "Harlem with Palm Trees."

Haiti has some great people. True! But they shouldn't have preferences to stay here.

America first, not Haiti first.

Except they DID have poverty prior to adopting welfare state policies, same as other european countries, which is one reason they adopted then. Pretty sure there have been poor Scandinavian americans too.

Friedman was a specialist in macro and monetary economist, not a labor economist, much less a sociologist.

And so the President of the United States, who purports to speak for ALL AMERICANS, shouldn't be held to a higher standard?

Durbin said he said “hate-filled things” repeatedly. I stood in an elevator when Durbin told us he “had a guy” before Barak Obama was elected. So there is that. Durbin is calculating.

I used the term shithole to describe my hometown decimated by manufacturing jobs moving to Mexico.
