Now Schultz is going after any Board members who didn't speak on behalf of either name option.... Palchek especially, and McElveen.
Oh my... Keys Gamara got a little over the top emotional offering Justice Thurgood Marshall (again). |
What a mess.
I cannot believe this group of people. The comments that Strauss made to the Mendez family were insulting. It is clear that this is a racist process--and I don't mean white supremacist. |
This settles it. I'm not voting for the school bond until this group is gone. They should not have control over anything. |
Curious, what did she say? |
Is it that it's a racist process or is it that Mendez only got about 350 votes, which doesn't show wide community support? More community members supported Peace Valley High. I think it's the least divisive of the choices. I think they should wrap this up by making a choice that might help to tone down the divisive nature of this whole process. |
It will be Justice.
The Mendez motion failed on a 6-6 tie and then Corbett-Sanders left, so it will be at least 6-5 in favor of Justice. |
+1 The comments indicate that the members are very attached to using school naming to honor specific ethnic groups. Moon specifically said that Mendez is for the hispanic kids and he wants a school named for an Asian person very soon. Just S-T-O-P with schools being named after people. If they would just choose something neutral like Peace Valley, they would never have to mess with that school's name again. So very political to pander to different racial groups. |
They can just leave in the middle of a vote? |
Schultz is just insufferable in her righteousness. Talk about a blow-hard! |
self-righteousness, actually. |
A Post article the other day left me confused--are they still talking about the full, formal name being "Justice Thurgood Marshall HS" with people being told to refer to it as Justice, or are they now dropping the "Thurgood Marshall" and wanting it to be "Justice High School"? The Post implied the choice now was Justice without Marshall's name but it wasn't made clear. |
The post is correct. They are going to vote on "justice" high school even though it wasn't a top 5 pick of the community. |
The "formal" name as approved is Justice High School. The intent is to honor each of Thurgood Marshall, Barbara Rose Johns, and Col. Louis Mendez. It is not shorthand for "Justice Thurgood Marshall HS." There was a separate motion to that effect by Keys-Gamarra, and it was defeated. |
Let’s just use numbers instead. |
Justice Warriors?? |
