Why didn't the local friend who dropped off the cash just swing by target and pick up any trunks in size 10?

So what are you going to do with the trunks, OP?

Thanks for the update OP.

I read it as they didn't have the exact same print in the size.

Think about this: if target really doesn't have any size 10 swim trunks---which is possible since summer gear is sold out quickly---then how easily can the swim trunks be replaced?

I don't really understand why they wanted the money instead of the trunks. What good does the money do when the kid just needs something to wear into the water?

OP you absolutely positively must text that mom right now and tell her you need your $5 back IMMEDIATELY.

I'm not sure they ever really did ask for money. They wanted the trunks but there wasn't a pathway to get them to her. OP's friend was already nearby and offered her own money, which OP will likely reimburse her for.

Oh the party host knows all about it. She barely knows them but didn't want to leave anyone out, of course, so she invited the son.
You are right - we didn't check target for other suits.
At that point the money seemed easier but maybe we should have done that.

By all accounts the son is sweet. So I don't want him to be "blacklisted" or whatever you want to call it. He's 7! It's not his fault his parents are jerks. It's hard enough being the new kid. Anyway hopefully it's all over now.
Of course I will send the suit to school on Monday.
My husband keeps making jokes about it. Like sending me texts saying please deliver my toothbrush NOW. I left it in your car!!
That's why I did not want him to know. He will absolutely not let it go. He will try and make a joke about it at the next school party.
He's kind of a buffoon that way. He will be talking about this forever now!

So you strategized with a more than a handful of people, discussed PayPal, and yet never considered ubering the swim trunks there? Befuddling.

They clearly wanted the swim trunks returned--not money to replace them.

Next time use your noggin: uber.

No way all of target had NO size ten.... They usually sell S, M, & L... Should have just grabbed an L.

How is this sad?

Because the OP should have read all of this, and given an update. There are too many people that want advice and then run away.

I wanted to know why the school is so far away from this person. That seemed odd. That would've been an ideal drop off place.

I want to know how this woman knew that the Op's kid had taken the swimsuit by accident.

I have to say it sounds like you had enough time to leave them on their porch with all the scheming and wine opening you were doing. Why didn't friend's husband offer to watch your kids while you went?

Between this and How Many Spears of Asparagus, lightly Fried Spiced Tuna, and Bobcat, it's a tie

The other kid wears a size 6, OP's kid wears a 10. Keep up!

OP, this thread feels like the official inauguration to summer for DCUM. Thanks a million for the followup. You sound like you have some fun friends/fellow parents. Crazy Swim Trunk Mom doesn't know what she's missing out on!
