Someone told Mary that Edith was the one to send the letter so it much not have been too anonymous. |
...Barrow's free... Excellent summary, 23:08. I knew pretty much this would be the end b/f even watching. Watching Carson telegraph the "palsy" with the papers--shake, shake, shake. Yeah, we get it. I'm tired of Edith's frowny smiles. The Drewes should have blackmailed her regarding Marigold's true identity. Lastly, their sound person was driving me insane most of the episode--loud jingle, jingle, jingles--keys, ladies jewelry, and even in the scene where nothing should be jingling--Tom and Henry discussing business over drinks, Andy nailing up the pig styes. Ugh. |
My one question is what happened with Edith in the newspaper? Is she going to continue running it now that she's a marchioness out at Brancaster? Did they tie up this loose end and I missed it, or did she just give all that up to get married? |
Edith's editor ran the paper, leaving Edith plenty of time to mope around. How can the editor and Tom get together if she's in London and he's out in the country selling cars?
I couldn't believe the birth scene in Lady Mary's own bed. Why couldn't Anna just walk over to a servant's room or even a spare room and have the baby, if she couldn't walk back to her cottage? The baby wasn't going to fall out with the cerclage in place. I wish Anna had said to her new baby, "Ohh Master Behhhhts." /soaring violins |
The cerclage would have been taken out. Otherwise it would have torn her cervix during labor. All that aside, she could still have made her way home or something. I mean the labors on Downton are so easy and cliche. Except for Sybil! |
She could have made it home, but Mary insisted she stay in her bed. |
Did anyone else hear that the actor who plays Bates has a drinking problem so severe it affected his work, which is why we have barely seen him recently? |
I read that he was arrested for DUI. |
In some way, were they also trying to show an arc in her character? In the beginning they were the, gasp!, kinda middle class cousins! Matthew made a point of dressing himself! He was a doctor, of all things! Golly! She and Dr. Clarkson made sense then. In the end, she was a lady and fit well with a gentleman (a really adorable guy and a Peer). I think there was a message there. Class was such an issue in the other marriages, how could it not be present in this one? |
As with Carson's wedding, she was clearly making a point. She hated to think of herself as a snob. Her concerns about her husband's situation and her position (and George's) was a responsibility. Outside of that, throughout the series she'd do things to demonstrate her lack of snobbishness. Mrs. Patmore's wedding coat anyone? |
Not just any DUI. He went to a Thai rehab for a month. He gets plastered on the plane ride home and arrested for a DUI (his second) after leaving the airport. https://www.thefix.com/downton-abbey-star-brendan-coyle-arrested-dui-one-day-after-rehab |
I did notice that Edith thanked Baxter at the wedding scene yet the historical advisor previously said none of the aristocrats ever thanked the staff. You would see Tom do it, but he didn't start as an aristocrat. |
Okay, what the hell is "Thai rehab?" I can only think that it a "vacation" to get plastic surgery or your cover for when you actually go to prison: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/manchester/4163387.stm |
No alcohol but lots of happy endings? |
