Downton Abbey - No spoilers!!

Why the hell does Elizabeth McGovern always cock her head in that mournful way when she delivers her lines? It's very distracting.

I had the exact same thought last night. She also has a particular cadence to her voice that she overuses, IMO.

It's hard to believe they love each other because we see no interactions that would explain why they do. They don't tease each other or discuss ideas or do things together. They just have a crisis, one of them says "You'd be better off without me," the other says "Never! I love you!" and then Anna cries and they cling to each other.

Ick.

Ha, that just summed up their storyline for the past 4 seasons. I also agree Anna's hair looked odd. I thought it looked like it had powder in it, but a wig is more likely.

Did everyone see Tom, Lady Mary and Lord Grantham on The Colbert Show reading lines in American accents? If not, Google it. No spoilers in it.

So, so boring. The Mr. Green storyline, in particular. The cop just shows up to give them a heads up on the new victim who confessed. Crying and angst. Then the cop shows up to tell them there's another new witness who corroborates the victim. Crying and celebration. So dumb.

I thought they were setting up Mrs. P and the cop. Maybe that's the point of that pointless storyline.

I thought the blackmail story would take a turn into murder for hire. Or maybe I just wanted it to. It's hard to feel sorry for Mary, but the blackmailing woman was deliciously hateful.

Loved the take-down of Miss Denker.

Yes, it could have been a new engagement for Mr. Bates (and another plot distraction)....

At least they've turned down the sappy violin music whenever Bates and the missus have their pathos-filled love scenes.

I may be the only viewer who isn't crazy about Mr Bates.

First, Mary's AWESOME dress with the AWESOME necklace!! I'm no fashion queen but wow was that beautiful or what?

Agree with PP re Elizabeth McGovern and also the lack of feeling when delivering her lines (but I think they want that out of her but it's just too lifeless)

There were two scenes that mention Edith's old flame (Marigold's dad): The scene with Mary and Edith talking about the flat in London, and then the aunt and Edith while in the flat. Both comments were totally unnecessary. So I think they did it to remind viewers…so I predict he's coming back.

Mrs. Patmore sighs and wishes someone would fall in love with her…ok, we can NOT end this series with Mrs. Patmore not having someone fall in love with her. Now that Daisy's behavior has guaranteed that her FIL be thrown off his farm, he will end up at DA and voila!

Ok what do you guys think? Any predictions?

That is a great prediction and would be wonderful if it happens! Very sweet.
The storyline with Daisy's FIL confuses me. I thought a couple of seasons back, he had told Daisy that he would be leaving everything (i.e. the farm) to her when he died. So my impression was that he owned his farm... but now we're told he's just a tenant. So how could he possibly have planned to leave it to Daisy?

Mary is so cutting to Edith - when Edith was talking about her flat in London, Mary corrected her and said, "You mean, Michael Gregson's flat?" I was so glad Edith spoke up and said, "No, I mean MY flat."

Just googled it - too funny! I loved it.

+1
The whole Mr. Green storyline, from start to finish, was dullsville. I think Jullian Fellowes probably got a lot of negative feedback about it and so decided to wrap it up all nice and neat (and stupid) in the first episode of the season so that hopefully we can move onto something more interesting with Anna and Bates. Like maybe she'll get pregnant! Did couples adopt in those days?

I've been a Downton devotee the entire run, but had a hard time paying attention last night.

Me too. Actually drifted to sleep. Will rewatch.

I also miss Roses youth, energy, optimism and personality.

I'll be the voice of dissent. I did not like Rose and am glad she is gone. It was too over the top, for me, both the actress and the character. The other one I couldn't stand, which I guess was the point, was Tom's love interest teacher.
