How does someone with DID or so schizophrenia even know they’re transgender? How does someone like that have the ability to provide consent at any age?

I think there are some people whose brains are wired such that they reject the typical rules and categories, or those rules/categories simply don’t make sense or ring true to them. They may perceive gender identity as one of those “rules”. I read something on Reddit written by someone who is autistic and trans, and that is how they explained it. For people with severe mental illness, rejection of rules/categories may be part of a larger splitting with reality. I’m not saying this is the case for everyone who is trans, just that for some people there may be this relationship due to brain wiring.

Trump LITERALLY wants crazy people to have guns.

He did this:

The blood is on his hands.

My working theory: The GOP knows a non-trivial percentage of their base is clinically nuts and owns guns, and they don't want to offend them, so they tiptoe around the obvious and instead go out of their way to pander and coddle people who they know are are nuts and who they perfectly well know should not have guns.

It's just schizophrenic nonsense.
You can't lock someone up for being nuts in America. They have to either commit a crime or tell a healthcare provider that they are planning to commit a crime (or suicide). And then you can get them 72 hours in a hospital.
This needs to change. We have people who are a danger to society and we are just waiting for these ticking time bombs to go off. Often even their own parents are begging for help.
I will happily pay more taxes for this and I am GOP.

This is so tragic. We need to be able to put people with severe mental disabilities like schizophrenia in protective care.

Honestly Democrats could win their way back to power by making re-institutionalization of the mentally ill part of their platform. It overlaps with their generalized concern about health care access anyway and would generate tons of jobs for the liberal types who like the caring professions. Talking about gun control hasn’t gotten them anywhere. Re-institutionalization is common sense and attractive to moderates.

Who’s gonna staff these clinics??

How did they staff crazy houses, group homes, and psych wards back then? pp is right. You didn’t see this type of thing in the past because crazy people or problem teens were institutionalized early away from polite society

Is “Thou shalt not kill” a rule that’s difficult to comprehend. These people are antisocial psychopaths.

Father Michael Louis Pfleger a priest at the Sabina Catholic Church, a Black parish in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood, has a message for Trump!

Before you dare speak about any violence in Chicago, look into your mirror and address the violence coming from the White House! 🔥

It is insane to me how among the listed side effects for SSRIs - drugs given for severe depression - are suicidal thoughts and suicidal behavior! What are the point of these poisonous things???

Well yeah unfortunately when you have someone detached from reality who also has antisocial tendencies and violent impulses, the results can be disastrous. We are lucky more people with severe mental illness do not also show these things considering how I equipped we are to deal with it.

I hope we start moving away from them more and make things like TMS more widely available.

Good point. Elder care, childcare, and mental health care are three points Democrats ought to make part of their platform as they are serious issues and affect quality of life for lots of Americans (sometimes dealing with multiple or all of these at once).

Kamala hit as something close to this when she talked about expanding Medicare to cover home care/home health care

DP. Do you realize there’s already a massive shortage of mental health care providers in this country? The inpatient pediatric mental health facility in my city has a nine month waiting list.

It’s also dumb that teens can’t vape or smoke until 18 or drink till they’re 21 because alcohol is considered a mind altering drug yet they can take SSRI’s or completely change their gender with puberty blockers while underage.

Teens are already mentally not all the way there so imagine with medication

It’s because mental health doesn’t pay so people aren’t attracted to the field. In addition, private equity ruined care when they took over the hospitals. Every hospital is cutting corners and critically understaffed and overbooked. Every single one. I don’t care how high ranking you may assume the hospital is. Every hospital is a huge disaster from the small and rural to the large metropolitan ones. Urgent care and Obamacare was supposed to fix the issue but it has made things worse

Supply and demand. You can train with an associate’s degree for some nursing and medical assistant jobs. Liberals who would have majored in some silly humanities degree Will major in health care related stuff instead and actually get jobs so they don’t have to beg for us to pay back their student loans for worthless degrees.

When I was in my late 20s a good friend on anti-depressants (SSRIs) committed suicide.
