I think there are some people whose brains are wired such that they reject the typical rules and categories, or those rules/categories simply don’t make sense or ring true to them. They may perceive gender identity as one of those “rules”. I read something on Reddit written by someone who is autistic and trans, and that is how they explained it. For people with severe mental illness, rejection of rules/categories may be part of a larger splitting with reality. I’m not saying this is the case for everyone who is trans, just that for some people there may be this relationship due to brain wiring. [/quote]
