“Exclusive”, “backward”, “shady”, “bunch of separate deals” - all on brand for LS

I am biased with a son in that age group. The top (2?) teams are competitive in most age groups and getting better. The group does have strong coaches with DP, KL and FA all being very different but very effective. Losing SM to the younger academy kids hurt because he is fantastic for this age group too.

The rising u12s are way more talented than their VPSL record and have done quite well in high level tournaments. They’ve recently added 1 or 2 kids from Revolution whose team is struggling in EDP at that age group. The rising u11s are also very talented and playing up an age group in 2nd division of NCSL and doing well. Those two teams have been together a long time with very little turnover but some new talent added each year (1 maybe 2 kids) to address holes in the roster. Too soon to tell for rising u10. FA is a good coach and there is talent there. Sometimes his coaching style is better for older kids so I expect them to get better as they mature. New group just finishing their first year but solid.

Getting the same coach 2 years in a row does help because each has a different style approach and I’ve not seen a true “club philosophy” but consistency helps. They also actively promote players up to guest play and have seen kids fleet up to top team from 3rd team.

All that being said - if you aren’t on one of the top two teams - you won’t get the same level of coaching or commitment. But that’s every large club.

Just a heads-up — if you’re okay with a large roster, LS typically carries 16–17 players for rising U12. That means your kids will likely spend more time on the bench than on the field.

This can be true, especially for the top team (or two?) who often play 11v11 in Spring to prepare for that transition. So not necessarily as big of a bench if that’s the case/plan once you get through Fall.

Flat out not true! Jeez, just make it up as you go along? Which teams exactly do you have this level of insight, my son plays for one you referenced so want to check your veracity

its true for top team. We had 17 this season for U12 and will have 19 for U13. Meaning one player does not dress. Not as bad as FVU or VDA which will roster 20-22 though.

FVU and VDA do not have more than 18 at u13/14. You just burned your own club.

My son’s U11 team (rising U12) has played Loudoun’s top and second teams over the past few years. It always seems like a lot of kids on the bench.

The rising u11 (who are already playing 9v9) have 12 on the roster. Could expand based on tryouts last night and tonight, but wouldn’t bet on them going over 13.

So you are claiming the current LS U12 red boys team rosters 17 players?

Rostering 17 players for U12 means one kid is left out every game? VYSA caps game-day rosters at 16 for 9v9.
