Anyone following this Candice Miller/Mama & Tata nightmare?

Mike and Barbara were wonderful generous people, and Mike had some very loyal investors - meaning he came through for them. Mike actually invested in my deals, shared his investors, offered up office space to my young company on favorable terms, and even offered to host my wedding. My basis for what I am writing includes sharing office space with Mike for almost a decade. Mike could be a difficult businessman in a way that appears to be representative of the the NYC real estate world, where few pay their bills or fail to negotatiate. In that uber competitive niche, not every deal works out and not every bill gets paid, but from what I saw with Michael Miller many did, which is probably why he flourished for decades. Mike and Barbara were incredible parents to Brandon and his sister. Brandon was a sweet and personable boy, shy and respectful. At Collegiate and then Brown, he survived academically challenging environments, so he must be smart. The Brandon we knew was not a shark. The last time we saw Brandon was at his wedding, and the last time I saw Mike and Barbara was at our son's bar mitzvah, fifteen years ago.

Real estate investing relies heavily on debt and timing. If the market is floating all boats, leverage through borrowing is wonderful and everyone wins. When the cycle isn't good, then leverage is a death knell. Mike survived a harsh period in his real estate investing and re-established himself, I can see how Brandon might have followed his father's legacy, investing and borrowing into the headwinds of a challenging COVID impacted real estate market where it becomes impossible to refinance properties or sell them for what you paid/invested. From my personal perspective - and that of my family - the Miller's were wonderful people. We are sincerely heartbroken.

It's easy to be generous with someone else's money.

How brave you, anonymous. You got sucked into the web of deceit.

Is it any different than Trump’s real estate dealings?

Her beauty and fitness routine. It sounds expensive and so time consuming. Do rich housewives just workout and go to salons all day?

A lot of them, yes.

The link above makes for an interesting read. She must have simply gone to workouts and treatments every day and come home to the homemade chef meals.

Frankly that sounds amazing

Cut throat in terms of social status? What does even mean?

The Hamptons is chock full of women like this from NYC. It’s all about keeping up with the Joneses, people have an ungodly amount of money. Homes sale at 50 million like nothing. But these influencers are sadly caught up in the bs and social media has only intensified the need to display wealth and status. No one wants to be just a regular person. There’s so much fakeness, it’s all just very sad and tragic especially for the kids.

+1 They lack spiritual direction and are chasing wealth and prestige as their gods.

She wasn’t an influencer though: she was a child of privilege raised in the Hamptons who wasn’t monetizing her house of cards life. It’s odd!

Maybe in her social circle, it would’ve been looked down upon if she had monetized her Instagram? She would’ve looked like a poor or a commoner?

Middle school everywhere is a challenging social time for kids for the most part. I know her eldest especially was considered popular and her parents always threw her the most lavish parties.
Her coming year is bar mitzvah season so it will be a big adjustment for her to not have a socially-acceptable party. There is a ton of wealth at Riverdale.

And there's no money in Miami?! It'll be even worse! She would have been better off moving to some small town in CT or MA and rebranding as understated tasteful wealth in some historical small house.

Her cousin Brandon is married to influencer Arielle Charnas, definitely a figure many of her circle love and admire.

Sure there is, but I think for her kids it will be easier to restart afresh rather than have to sort out complex issues among a friend group that includes some of the most privileged Manhattan families.

Miami is just more forgiving. I have done both environments.

Can someone explain why anyone would “rent” furniture for over 100k a year?

Failed clothing line funded by friends, husband(now ex?) facing insider trading and other financial misdoings, apparently the whole family is a bunch of charlatans.

People like this aren’t living in some tastefully done 4 bed 2.5 bath in Weston CT. No. Sorry. Even if there is no money left they aren’t doing that. Their whole life, drive, and religion is mega over the top wealth and they will not be able to adjust. The kids could potentially but they are in the tween age and have been taught to value stuff, luxury, over the top experiences. You don’t go from wearing designer clothes at 11 and spending whatever you want on sushi with other rich peers, dropping by love shack fancy and having no spending limit to being fine with J crew and living in a normal home. As others mentioned, it’s her bat mitzvah year and not having a socially acceptable one will traumatize this child. Even if she did have one I bet half her “friends” would not be permitted to attend. My bet is she will save herself the embarrassment and have a “family only” one in Israel. Most families who aren’t as rich as they want to appear or are going through a scandal do this.
